So it turns out that the 'fast-track' to getting projects consented isn't so fast after all.
This is backed up by a planner I know who's been working flat out on a fast track application for months & reckons it would have been consented by now under the usual RMA process.

Oof. Roads closed everywhere, power & water out around Riwaka & Kaiteriteri, flooding in Takaka. People evacuated.
Nelson City seems to have escaped yet again & the Motueka valley, miraculously, is still open.
Still wet & windy out there.

This is great. The bit that stands out to me is the insight into what they are providing: agency. The loss of agency is real. After 40 years of neoliberal dismantling of community & handing everything to the market, this is a real feeling that's being manipulated & directed with disastrous results.

These are all stories from the last couple of days. A huge energy transition has happened *despite* the active spread of disinformation & the entrenched vested interests.
Just imagine what could have been achieved if the western political & industrial class *actually* wanted to avoid climate change.
