The Republican strategy in 2024 was "we know Trump is a colossal piece of shit, but that's not as bad as being a really old guy," and the Democratic Party forcing him out reinforced to many people the idea that the stakes of electing Trump weren't all that high

If in 2025 you think Trump flattering a Democrat in a photo op is a “significant policy concession” I’m not sure you have object permanence.

At the end of the day you either treat wanting Republicans to lose as an imperative or not and we’ve been drowning in generic accounts like hippo for years now who would die before ever being seen as a partisan invested in the materiel outcome of the non fascist party beating the fascists.
Nobody's saying online posters have more accountability than elected Democrats. It's that they have *some* accountability, i.e., greater than zero, which adds up over many accounts, and the problem is that accounts with large followings like Internet Hippo seem to believe it is zero.

when musk took over twitter initially there wasn't a mass exodus because the existing state of it was so bad that it seemed like any damage he could do to it wouldn't really be noticeable. and when first wave of refugees went out, many were so toxic that a lot of others silently said 'good riddance'

Breaking character: I am open to the idea the media's coverage of Biden's age and mental acuity was fair or perhaps not even tough enough. But the fact that it was so much tougher than the coverage of Trump's (more severe) mental decline is damning and I can't see how anyone could argue otherwise.
NYT isn’t worth reading because they are in the bag for Trump

My take on historical accuracy in games is that I don't care. If your game is set in Medieval England and you want to make the Commander of the Guard a queer black woman, that's fine. But if the game just has a bunch of white people then you can't really knock them for that either.

Call me a loser, sucker, wimp, whatever, but I guess I'm not cynical enough to think that prolonging a government shutdown because you think it hurts your political enemies is a good thing to do.

If you spent 2024 saying Trump and Democrats are equally bad, I’d like to see you maintain that today and at least show some intellectual consistency. But many who said that in 2024 are now acting very very concerned about Trump, which makes me suspect they knew better back then.

In 2024, a million people with a small but nonzero amount of influence on the left each decided that because they couldn't singlehandedly influence the election, they could say anything they wanted against Harris, and collectively that added up to Trump winning.

The progressive approach to politics is "just overpromise and tell everyone you're going to do a bunch of big structural change and don't worry about whether you can actually do it" which, in my opinion, is much more insulting to voters than what normal Democrats do.
