Just a little PSA. If you try to message me on here I will probably still see it eventually, and I will probably continue to post funny things my old video games say. Just setting some personal boundaries while I can.

I would like to be able to engage more healthily with this, because it has genuine positive qualities, but I cannot let the brain hooks get any deeper, so I am deliberately limiting it to a thing I use while seated at a desk, when I have a reason.

They have not added to the internet, they have conquered it and forced it all into the same mold, owned by a handful of people who have left us seemingly no option but to put up with whatever they want to enforce.

They encourage "being social" but only on the most superficial level possible and are basically hostile to any actual conversation that isn’t just yelling at each other across a busy street. They are a lonliness placebo.

They sap you of your ability to exercise agency in your life and dictate your own activities for yourself because they're an infinite fidget balloon that will expand to fill every inch of your brain you let them fill.

These platforms are good for sharing things (music, art, memes, specific types of breaking news) but also turn you into an algo-zombie who has no hobbies because your brain has been chemically conditioned to pathologically fill every spare second with surface level gawking.

Good video games will always be here because AA and indie studios will rise to fill any void that gets left at the top, but y'know. Just be ready for another pretty grim period like we had in the early 2010s, because the landscape is not healthy right now.

As for the big western AAAs, half of them are Microsoft now, nobody cool I know is even paying attention to EA or Ubisoft anymore, and other than the one game Rockstar makes every five years, what do you expect from Take-Two?

Konami is still dead, Capcom is still mainly a Monster Hunter factory, and SquareEnix still wants you to buy NFTs. There is only so much that Sega can do, and let's not pretend Koei-Tecmo or Namco-Bandai are going to save the world here.

This is happening at Microsoft, Nintendo is deep into their complacency mode, and Sony is run by people who have now catastrophically failed at making the same live-service thing like five times and have learned nothing from any of those failures.

If they're allowed to sit then the customers might think they're comfortable and they like their jobs, and therefore they are insufficiently trained as automaton soldiers which reflects poorly on the establishment's ability to break their spirits.
