I don't know about the US, but here in Singapore people are encouraged by their mobile provider to "upgrade" their phone every two years when thy recontract. While some of the "old" phones make their way to 2nd and 3rd hand markets, it's exceptionally bad in terms of sustainability.

Living outside the US for nearly 30 years has made me acutely aware of how particular the view of masculinity that many American men have is so narrow and harmful to themselves and others. It doesn't have to be like that.

Yeah, I have been seeing people saying this change is fascist and racist, but not by definition. Many developing countries have preferential rates for locals over foreign tourists. It makes sense in those contexts, but in the US at this time, it's just part of the grift.
