The law of war first and foremost serves to protect American servicemembers from mistreatment. This is a dark path for future POWs or others who are hors d’combat.

I’ve never worn the uniform but it’s freaking obvious to me why this is important.

In March 1944, Heinz-Wilhelm Eck ordered the execution of survivors of a Greek ship SS Peleus, sunk by his sub, U-852.

80 years ago yesterday (Nov 30), he and two others were executed after being convicted for war crimes.

Not knowing anything about these birds - do they just spend the rest of their time in the open sea?

The FFs at the station heard the accident and self dispatched to investigate. The rescue was just arriving at the discovered accident when the formal dispatch from the 911 calls started arriving.

University Ave is largely residential with limited access N/S. Los Gatos station 83 is just a few blocks away on that same road. Blocking car access won’t work there, unfortunately. (I’m a fan of more pedestrian spaces though)

It’s a great coffee shop though! Used to drink there when we lived in Los Gatos.

maybe parking an M1 tank as a bollard might be in order though. That was a hell of a hit. Thankful nobody died.

I have heard this a lot whenever anyone posts about USAID, and I’ve just decided that anyone who badmouths USAID gets blocked on sight. Life is too short.

This was an obvious thing to happen. Others will happily step into the void left by USAID.

I have worked with USCG folks over the years and have great respect for their work - the helicopter rescues during Katrina when everything else fell apart, etc.

Which is why it is disturbing when you hear USCG used for ICE flights and whatever this is. Feels like a betrayal of the institution.

The change.
