In the Judah story, the daughter-in-law, Tamar, proves that HE was the "customer" who bought her, and this is all in the context where he wouldn't let her marry one of his sons to carry on another son's name, as he was obligated to do. 2/3 #ParshaChat

Reminds me of a story about another of her brothers, Judah, who thinks his daughter-in-law has "played the harlot." He tersely says she has to be killed. in this week's parsha, Shimon and Levi assume that Shechem has shamed Dinah in a way that's just as bad. They have to be killed. 1/3 #ParshaChat
