Associate professor at Lund University, Sweden. Work with tree rings, dendrochronology, climate change, peatlands, fine arts and cultural heritage. 🌳💍
A new collaboration with the dendro group at the University of Gothenburg initiated. Together, we will study the establishment of woody shrubs in Greenland and tree growth variability in relation to ongoing climate change. 🌳💍🔬

Fieldwork in autumn colors. The forest was quiet and still, with only a group of deer for company. 🌳💍🔬🦌

The Laboratory for Wood Anatomy and Dendrochronology, Lund university, received new samples from the underwater investigations at Bulverket on Gotland, carried out by Peter d’Agnan & his team. Analyses are now underway, and we’re hoping for new insights into this remarkable site.

Found my MSc thesis when we moved the lab, 132 subfossil trees measured in DOS and examined on a light table. I've been around for a while. 🌳💍🔬

Time to start the journey home from Umeå after an intense week in which I held a workshop, moderated, presented posters, had lots of meetings and listened to numerous presentations about new research projects. #TRACE2025 #Dendrochronology

Meeting at SLU about trees in urban environments and how we should plan the vegetation in our cities in a changing climate. 🌳💍🔬

More teaching in the field, today about peatland development and how their hydrology affects tree establishment and growth. 🌳☀️💦

Field teaching on treeline movements, slope processes, dendrochronology and climate change! 🌳

Good working day visiting two peat bogs for data download from dendrometer, water sampling, and nice weather! 🌳💍🔬☀️💦

Dating burnt archaeological wood pieces is a challenge. I managed to piece together a coherent series of tree rings spanning 77 years, let's see if that's enough for a dating. 🌳💍🔬

Another day on the peat bog to maintain and read dendrometers to see how the trees react to rewetting. 🌳💍🔬

Battery replacement and maintenance of my dendrometers at Store Mosse! Some problems, but the weather was nice. 🌳💍☀️

Straight from the press, our new book "Fantastiska ringar" (Fantastic Rings)! The book explores dendrochronological research with a focus on Sweden. Book release on April 24, so more information will follow later! 🌳💍🔬

All of this feels so obvious that it shouldn't need to be published, but unfortunately, free thought, knowledge, and development seem to be something dangerous that is being increasingly opposed.

Works with lime / linden (Tilia spp) grown in an urban environment. Rings that are hard to see and messy growth, so surprising and satisfying when I get t-values of 8 between several different trees. 🌳💍🔬

What happened to this oak in 2024? Minimal earlywood vessels and a light color across the entire ring. Any suggestions? 🔬🤔

A day at the Børsen in Copenhagen. Sad to see how the fire last year destroyed the 400 year old building, but interesting sampling of pine trunks from Gotland together with colleagues from the University of Gothenburg. 🌳💍🔬

Going through and repacking all these samples will require work eight days a week! 🌳💍🔬

Continues to CT scan oak samples, mostly for fun (and it is). 🌳💍 #dendrochronology

Ending the work week by analyzing subfossil pine and oak. One of the pines seems to be about 3500 years old, the oak can probably be 14c-dated. 🌳💍
