Murray double feature for a dads movie night, then some #criterion exploration.
1. Polanski’s first…impressed by how this is shot on the water
2. Lots of feelings thrown around here
3. Could have used the structure of Phoenician Scheme
4. First watch, loved it!

1. Mitchum+Ryan? Sign me up!
2. Funny, not quite the bite of the first one, but definitely made me laugh!
3. A movie for the male gaze, that certainly delivers on that! Super sleazy Rock Hudson.
4. Great writing delivered spectacularly by Scott.

3/4 female-forward films.
1. Yorgos barely working within the strictures of reality.
2. Want to hear the opinion of any and all mothers, for this one.
3. Maybe the last significant Hitch for me to see.
4. Pretty good for the morality movies of the 50s.

Things got progressively worse.
1. Yikes. Utah not a great stand-in for Mongolia (among other inaccuracies haha).
2. Didn’t hate it.
3. Fantastic…well, maybe just ok.
4. Glenn Ford playing a tough is always funny.

1. Didn’t realize I’d watched this two years prior…very forgettable movie
2. One of the better modern slashers, but that’s not saying much
3. Cannibal Holocaust wannabe
4. 80s camp to the max…sometimes not clear what’s unintentionally funny and what’s on purpose

1. Hate when “based on a true story” is this far off the real life.
2. Biggest laughs are in the first 5 minutes; solid Wes.
3. Felt very dated.
4. Thought there was going to be a lot more about music.

Snapped this yesterday to capture an October run (but another to follow, as I’ve already watched 4+ more).
1. Abel Ferrara on 100.
2. Make-up still works 100 years later.
3. Not bad…a lot packed into the runtime.
4. All killer. No filler. (Stolen review)

1. Hard to root for anyone, but cute ending.
2. Need more Lino Ventura in my life.
3. Had a few chuckles…feels like this is the best you can hope for when watching a 30 year old comedy for the first time.
4. Awesome…looking forward to a rewatch.

1. Nothing funny about these games. Love foreign films that have the temerity to go “there”.
2. Can’t deny that I laughed a lot!
3. Great characters, but movie builds to a dance contest that falls flat.
4. Am I wrong to prefer Powell/Loy films to Hepburn/Tracy’s?

1. Meh
2. Meh, but in a more interesting way
3. No meh, but a little bit of “huh?”
4. No meh, just yuck. Not even sure why I gave it 1.5

1. Maybe didn’t watch closely enough, but felt let down by the reveal
2. Paint-by-numbers script carried by the Bronson, Coburn and Hill
3. Robin Hood story with a magnetic Barrymore and a hammy Veidt
4. One role Hepburn can’t portray? Not being in love with Tracy

Busy week, traded watching K-pop DH + ET with the girls. Dead Poets, Touchez Pas au Grisbi, and Missing (1982) all winners.
1. Brosnan/Mifune buddy flick…as expected.
2. Very 1993.
3. Good stuff; heavy-handed final scene.
4. Wonder happened the next day?

1. The ending bumped it up a 1/2 star. Is Mifune my fave actor?
2. Naw, prime Jack is…shades of Jake Gittes.
3. CGI kills are simply not as good as practical ones.
4. Really expected a spiral staircase to play a bigger role…not good for all of the reasons.

1. Agatha Christie with (of course) a solid premise but fails to support it, and an unsatisfying conclusion.
2. Is Sam Elliott everyone’s ideal man?
3. Decent Amazon schlock.
4. Loved what this film about the deaf did with silent cinema techniques.

Crime in the Streets: Cassavetes is a legend and the film is alright.
Black Bag: best of its type in a while.
Lady Snowblood: came for Japanese “horror”, stayed for the Kill Bill influences.
Fabulous Baker Boys: just a solid movie for adults; miss these.

Brick: They tried.
Contempt: Brigitte is 3 stars alone. Too melodramatic and I’ve never enjoyed Jack Palance
Fled: my first thought was, “Is this gonna be like the Defiant Ones? It was not
Hook: watched with my girls and they loved it!
All single word titles! Lol
