The answer, as per Google's AI Overview? 'Yes, Google's Gemini can access and read your emails, as well as other Google Workspace data like Drive and Calendar, to provide answers and perform tasks, and this is often enabled by default.

The above having been noted, I entered a search in Google: 'how to get spellcheck without feeding emails to Gemini AI?'

Malwarebytes has acknowledged that it 'contributed to a perfect storm of misunderstanding,' in regard to Gemini AI being fed Gmail content.

Google appears to deny that it feeds emails to Gemini AI.

Hence, it may be worth noting some ambiguity as per the notion of Gemini AI collecting email data.

(BTW: I am saddened that you are no longer Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities. I think that it would have been great to have you continue in that role.)

Hey, with that Lethbridge posting, was that Saturday, Oct 25th? Or Saturday, Nov 1st? Or both?

Also, the time shows 1:00-4:00m. Just to confirm, that's pm, rather than am, eh?

Also, would it be possible for the Government of New Brunswick to consider following the Government of Newfoundland & Labrador?

The social media companies have consistently kept gov't on their backfeet. I think that announcing an 'X-it' and announcing a renewed push for an Online Harms bill, at right about the same time, could help to shift some of the balance.

Plus, the Gov't of Canada needs to lead by X-ample with an X-it

(Remember the women/milk/funnel meme in my prior post?)

The gov't would be sure to drum up pushback on all three of the priorities. Hence, why not announce them all in close succession? Social media would be sure to sound off on any/all of them; why not create some chaos with an announced 'X-it'?

Knowing that an announced 'X-it' would surely enrage social media tech titans, the Cdn gov't could be sure to get noticed, as it posts its X-it plans all across all social media and via coordinated press announcements.

Basically, the gov't could 'milk' the X-it for all it's worth.

.. and the Cdn gov't could announce an X-it from X/Twitter. The Cdn gov't could deprecate its presences via X/Twitter and announce plans to migrate to Bluesky. (There is a browser extension or 2 that could help.)
3) The Cdn gov't could also announce fast-tracked plans to push an Online Harms bill.

1) Recognize Palestine. Some might accuse/conflate such an action by Canada of somehow being antisemitic.
2) Canada would, rightfully, dispute such a characterization. But in the interests of countering actual antisemitism, the Canadian gov't could point to the recent antisemitic meltdown by Grok ..

Actually, in terms of upcoming priorities, it would appear that the Canadian gov't is about to recognize Palestine as a state. This might come across as a risk, but it's also an opportunity. In essence, the Cdn gov't could do a few things at once:

Let us hope that we can get serious social media regulators in place, with teeth, in the near future.
September 21, 2025 at 6:56 AM
Going back to social media, though, I think that there really needs to be a push towards educating the public on age-appropriate design and privacy-by-design. What would it look like? How could it be implemented? And how soon?

We need regulators to do that. And they needed to be in place years ago.

That being said, there is an argument, along the lines of how streaming giants have been pressured to make a certain % of Canadian content easily discoverable via their services, there could be guidelines set for major porn streamers to make soft-core porn a majority of default content in Canada.

Plus, going back to Pierre Trudeau's (paraphrased) quote, as per 'The government has no business in the bedrooms of the nation,' should the government (or tech companies / data brokers, often U.S.-based) know what kinds of porn a given adult consumes? With age verification, the risk increases a lot.
