I don't like to mark books but I'm reading Arend Lijphart's book and there are so many gems of knowledge on each page I've stooped to writing little stars with a pencil. This book is a champion piece for consensus democracy over the majoritarian model. #Auspol

We have seen this a lot with the factional ructions within the Coalition but the same could be true for policy flips, like neg gearing and cap gains. Or taxing the rich and the resource robber-barons. Or a gambling ads ban. #Auspol
The Aus Institute does a good job of that already but it doesn't reach the MSM. For big political trends like that a tide has to turn and that usually involves someone breaking ranks, someone with enough profile to get on the evening news. Then others form behind them and we have a revolution.

"At the last election, a staggering 60 per cent of voters refused to give their first preference to either major party. Nearly a third chose independents or minor parties. Australians are hungry for change, and the old parties are failing to deliver." #Auspol johnmenadue.com/post/2025/11...

This man’s values are based in power, greed and division. They are so far removed from the values of the Australian people.
We need a government that has the courage to stand up to him, reject his racism, reject US bases and forge an independent peaceful path for Australia.

The first time that my mind was boggled in my study of #Auspol I saw this live on the ABC. An economist of his standing whose mind was boggled was hard to ignore. And he's telling us we made stupid deals that rip off every Australian. This is why we can't have nice things.

Budgets are about priorities. The idea is to tax things you want less of & subsidise things you want more of

In Australia we spend $14 billion per year on fossil fuel subsidies & we are cutting science jobs at CSIRO…

As i said, budgets are about priorities #climate

If the Government's top priority is productivity, slashing the CSIRO budget does not make sense
Research and development is one of the major drivers of productivity and the CSIRO has a long track record of making productivity enhancing breakthroughs.
