Conspiracy theories are folklore! Like myths, they offer explanations for why the world is a certain way. Did ancient people genuinely believe myths? If people can believe in pizza gate, the idea that Zeus became a shower of gold to impregnate Danae doesn't seem so farfetched a belief.
