One scrawny blond was returned for the third time, and was headed straight for the execution chamber. She cowered from everyone. Then she spotted my husband, raised her paw to pat his leg, and cuddled close. That was 7 years ago. She’s still cuddly. But not scrawny.

We said goodbye to Suchi a year ago today as well. She was 16.

Sadie spent the day at Furever Fabulous. She smells great but is exhausted from her trip to the doggie spa. #DogsofBluesky #Dogs

Testing recipes this week. Based on the reactions from food bank volunteers, the White Chocolate Ginger Spice and the Cranberry Pecan Shortbread won’t be added to the usual mix. Will keep trying. I usually bake 10 kinds and deliver about a dozen trays to neighbors & family.

Here are some of our family’s cutest.

Woke up to the sound of rifle shots this morning at 5:30, and the periodic sound of gunshots since reminded me that it’s open dear, quail, and squirrel season in Texas. We refreshed our “no trespassing” markers and checked trail cams are working. Hope we don’t lose any livestock this year.

Well, there was the time one rushed me and my dignity was severely injured falling on my backside, much to my grandchildren’s amusement. Guess I should have asked before taking photos. 😊

LOL - wouldn’t want it on my tree, but I laughed so loud it woke the dog up.

My husband can no longer walk Sadie safely - arthritis, no sidewalks where we live and a mostly ignored speed limit of 75 mph (120kmh). She has a dog door and an acre of fenced yard, but missed her walks. So now he takes her on car rides twice a day. #Dogs #Texas

Reminds me of our Sadie.

I like my go to leftover turkey recipe much better than the traditional Thanksgiving food. Turkey Tettrazini is my favorite!

Early Thanksgiving luncheon being set up - haven’t taken a bite yet and already eyeing the desserts on the sidebar: chocolate pecan cake, homemade whipped cream, lemon chess pie and pumpkin pie.

This is Sadie, a mixed breed rescue who has one green eye and one brown eye, ears that point in different directions, and a cuddle personality I would find more attractive if she didn’t roll in every foul-smelling bit of ground or yucky mess found in East Texas.

I suspect you have never been head butted by our pet, Teddy Roosevelt, when he wants a treat. He is rather large though he isn’t quite a year old.

Sadie has an unusual idea of things to play with - note her addition to her toy box. She was very upset when I took it away, but not as upset as when she brought in a (live) turtle and a (dead) raccoon.

My 5’0” daughter in law used a shovel to kill two baby copperheads that struck at Darth Vader, her Akita. Since they are babies, there is likely a nest of more nearby. Vader’s explorations will be limited to the dog park until we finally have a hard freeze. It’s 85F here today. #Texas

My husband is currently losing an argument with two dogs. He has been talking for 15 minutes and just said, “Well, I don’t think having your nails trimmed will kill you.” #Dogs

Jack did that due to a genetic form of epilepsy common to Gordon Setters and Irish Setters. A daily phenobarbital tab stopped it. We tried several vets before the vet school diagnosed it after genetic tests. He loved to be 16, but his poor tail was permanently “kinked” before the bashing stopped.

This is Han Solo. When he arrived as a 15-pound pup a year ago, my DIL’s cat Darth Vader easily intimidated him. Han is now over 125 pounds and ignores Vader unless he annoys him. Then he uses a massive paw to knock him over, then holds him in place on the ground until he goes still. Hilarious!

Stopped by the William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Library, and noticed the Anne Frank Memorial. I was profoundly touched by The Diary of Anne Frank and remember being grateful I’d never live in a time when people are rounded up and sent to foreign camps. But here we are. Tragic & unforgivable.

I noticed. My granddaughter walks around with about $150,000 of medical devices in her chest (artificial heart valve, pacemaker, defibrillator, two shunts). It will take help from her dad, stepmom, and me to cover the quadruple cost of her ACA insurance next year. Of course, she’s worth it.

I don’t know who gave ragweed the scientific name Ambrosia artemisiifolia, but I feel sure they didn’t have seasonal allergies. It’s November and the weather forecast doesn’t call for a hard freeze until after Thanksgiving, so we still have huge patches of this stuff everywhere. #Allergies #Texas

It’s 39 here this evening but is projected to be 80 by Tuesday. Which means we may not get a freeze to kill the ragweed until after Thanksgiving. I am so sick and tired of seasonal allergies. And the spring allergy season will be here in February or early March at the latest.
