This is actually something Last Defense Academy improved on compared to DR, so 2x2 doing this puts the sprite quality on par with that game.

I've seen people on Reddit be like "I've been watching anime for a while and most of it is misogynist garbage. Are there any anime that aren't like this?" and I need to resist the urge to bang my head into the wall.

I also need to mention how annoying it is to see people whine about "anime tropes" and it's just tropes from battle shounens. So many people on Reddit would be way less negative about anime if they just watched anything besides battle shounen.

You can literally pick any random original anime up on Netflix and that will be eye opening. It doesn't even have to be a good original anime. Just viewing something not based on a battle shounen manga will open your eyes up quite a bit to so much unique art.

Of course, they could just be wrong or failing to engage with what the game's going for. I'd need to play it myself to see. But it's still concerning when Metroid Dread was met with near universal acclaim.

Like the meta score is good. 81 is good. But I have to imagine the hype and anticipation is probably inflating people's views of it, so I went to the lower scores to look at the criticism and these problems seem pretty massive. Almost game ruining.

The dialogue is shockingly political. Like the game doesn't take itself seriously but is also full of overtly political language. It's really bizarre. Not complaining though since it's great.

I remember one scene where one of the characters calls Shinra fascist. It's not subtle.

The only thing that saddens me is the reputation this game has forcing everyone to express their love for this game defensively. "Despite it's flaws". "I acknowledge the problems." Fuck that bullshit. I love this game because it's fucking great.
