Tbh I think it’s simple: building audiences requires an investment longer than 5 months from readers, retailers and publishers.

Cozy should be a private label, like when I’m watching Hostel, Deep Red, or The Neon Demon

they see people like "cozy" and automatically push back against my stories where characters are abused, are poor, are struggling with mental illness

not sure what to do with that revelation tbh. I like the way I draw and I like utilizing nostalgia as a tool. I'm unwilling to shift completely. however, it does annoy me when people go like "hello sunshine [which is about suicide and grief and psychosis and trauma and anger] is so cozy uwu 🤗"

Really strong and honest comic here, Doug. Love the slow dissolution of the character models. Great dramatic effect with that.
