Among other things, I write about college football for
Gator Country. US Navy husband. Known as Year2 elsewhere, but that's from an old blog I started in 2006 and it's been a while.

Not lost on me that, if Sumrall really is going to Florida, that:
1. He lost to Napier last year, and
2. Lost 45-10 to Kiffin this year

Good luck with that intro presser, Scott

Problem with that is Florida's been through too many varied coaching changes for that to work. Lots of people will hear that and think, "oh great, just like Muschamp and Weis".

There's no winning the press conference unless Sumrall is announced along with a real-deal good OC, and that won't happen
Which is where the selling of the hire piece comes in. We're gonna pay him, he'll hire a top of the line OC, we'll re-direct a bunch of $ into NIL (I know some of this happeed with Napier so it's a tough sell.)

Paying him 8 figures too just reeks of "well we whiffed, so let's spend it elsewhere"

It was better last year when they had Mensah, but I didn't really watch them at all. If he's the pick, his first big test is whether he'll bring along his OC from Troy and Tulane or try to hire an established OC for his first big-boy job
Sumralls passing offense leaves a lot to be desired. He's gonna be seen as another Billy if he's the hire

I'm not sure Fisch would work out, but I'd rather try with a guy who likes wide-open offense
*defensively* I actually always wanted Fisch anyways
November 28, 2025 at 11:51 PM
ESPN article said Brohm, Sumrall, and Fisch are next in line. I don't think Brohm's leaving UL. Folks elswhere seem to think Sumrall's the guy.

Auburn & Ole Miss loved Sumrall too, so others want him. A defensive guy from a G5 is going to be a tough sell post-Napier though.
Got any thoughts on the field? Since we focused on Kiffin, I haven’t thought much about who is number two (Fisch, I assume). Only that whoever we get, I want the buyout to be low.
November 28, 2025 at 11:49 PM
There's no way to pretend Kiffin wasn't the first choice. Even the ESPN article, which must be sourced from the UF camp, says Florida is moving on to other candidates because of Kiffin's "irregular communication". Damage control spin is "we moved on before he said no"

The thought did occur to me that when LSU earlier in the week decided to stop trying to stiff Brian Kelly, it was some kind of closing move to convince Kiffin that they'd treat him well
November 28, 2025 at 11:39 PM
I've always thought he'd be a mistake, just like I always thought Mullen would be a mistake
I went from him being my top choice to thinking he might be the messiest mistake Florida could make.

My official position on Kiffin turning Florida down is that I’m glad I don’t have that man’s drama in my life and don’t really think he would’ve won a national title at UF anyway

A *huge* vaccine victory. I've been writing on this for years; Australia has seen remarkable progress in cervical cancer prevention with the HPV vaccine. I love seeing science triumph like this.
Australia recorded ZERO cases of cervical cancer in women under 25 for the first time since they started tracking the cancer in the 80s.

This is the power of vaccines.

The HPV vaccine is extremely effective at preventing cancer.

Viruses can be oncogenic. Get your vaccines and protect yourself!
newsGP - Australia set for world-first cervical cancer elimination
Vaccination programs have played a key role, and GPs remain ‘instrumental’ in boosting screening rates to reach the 2035 target.

Physics is a funny thing. A ~500 kg grand piano falls on you? Bad news. A 10 trillion kg black hole hits you traveling way faster? No big deal. 🧪
Looking for good news, I found this:

If you were struck by a microscopic black hole, the mass of a small asteroid, it'd be no worse than a gunshot. And such black holes are definitely too rare to have "any observable effects on the human population." 🔭🧪

Germany has about 8GW of balcony solar.
That's more than Ireland's entire generating capacity.
Today on Volts: I've had more requests to cover this than almost any other topic in the pod's history, so now, at long last, balcony solar! We dig into how "plug-in solar" took off in Europe & how it's making its way to the US, starting in Utah. Backyard DIY types rejoice!
What's the deal with balcony solar?
Cora Stryker joins me to explain how "plug-in" solar took Europe by storm and is finally, via Utah (?), making its way to America.

One of the absolute best kitchen shortcuts is risotto in a pressure cooker. It’s not as quite good as stovetop, but it’s close and orders of magnitude easier.

It makes it doable as a side on a weeknight, which is saying something for how much effort regular risotto is.
