What's noteworthy is that our systems and institutions haven't even caught up to thwarting 2016-level disinformation efforts but that hasn't stopped the baddies from innovating relentlessly.
New Russian propaganda network Pravda is manipulating AI chatbots to spread Kremlin disinformation. According to this report, just in 2024, the campaign flooded the web with 3.6 million fake articles to trick the top 10 AI models. #Misinformation

This is the pinnacle for disinfo. Deadly, powerful, entrenched with no obvious solution.

If it isn’t obvious by now, their arguments for everything they do are lies.
Russ Vought & Mark Paoletta claim presidents historically impounded funds, incl. Jefferson to build fewer gun boats. The truth: Jefferson relied on authority *Congress gave him* to spend less. Read for more about the history of impoundments: protectdemocracy.org/work/the-myt...

Their real issue with DEI has been its lack of grounding in good ol’ nepotism this whole time.

This from @mcuban.bsky.social is savage yet true:

"I learned that the Democrats can’t sell worth shit. If you gave the Democrats a dollar bill and said, you can sell these for 50 cents, they would hire 50 people to decide how to do it and then would not know how to sell a dollar for 50 cents.”

Andor is truly outstanding scifi. Using a pretend world to accurately describe our present reality and how we might fight our way out of it. Love every minute of it.
February 25, 2025 at 12:11 AM
I love this and of course @shayonislynn.bsky.social and @profsanderlinden.bsky.social are two of the greatest working in this space. What I worry about is while these tactics are proven (same with the work my team does) our shared #1 issue is chronic underfunding.
February 25, 2025 at 12:09 AM
In many ways, @marcelias.bsky.social is doing the scariest work right now in the public eye as it's through this stuff we find out how truly sick and dying the rule of law is for the country

If any of your work depends on data.gov there are reliable reports it’s being stripped of key datasets. Worth the risk to download what you need asap

If I survive it, already kinda wondering what my memo from the Age of #Trump should be…
First Trump admin, pandemic years, now this. It's shaping up to be a hell of a ten year run.

Great work by @jagolinzer.bsky.social and @profsanderlinden.bsky.social but strongly advise separating #misinfo from #disinfo. The latter is deliberately trying to inflict harm, as Kirk/Owens intended. We can’t just fight back with facts, but need immediate, powerful narratives to bury these attacks

"Uh, well, Madame Vice President, I have a bunch of new cute #kitten videos I can show you."

Use the president's #pardons to help people understand the fight is no longer right vs left and hasn't been for years. Conservatism has no space for pardoning your own violent political supporters. Only autocracy does.

Tell the stories of Jan.6 and ask where on the right those stories are OK.

Good piece from @richardwike.bsky.social but misses 2 crucial parts of the problem - the unequal nature in which side of the political spectrum #democracy is being undermined from and how modern media tools are allowing anti-democratic actors to consistently win.

Those topics MUST be addressed.
"[Citizens] still value representative democracy, but they also desire a new era of representation with significant changes to the relationship between leaders and the citizens they represent,” writes @richardwike.bsky.social.

Truth to power - a great way to show the purveyors of #disinfo that temporary wins with lies still must face deeper, greater truths
Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde to Trump: "I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now. There are gay, lesbian, and transgender people in Democratic, Republican, and independent families, some who fear for their lives ... and the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals"

Judd is one of the best and shows the tight link between #crypto and #disinfo - unless the former can find a way to disentangle from the latter, its reputation will always be subject to grifters and bad actors
Crypto exchanges under investigation by the SEC have spent days boosting Trump's meme coin, $TRUMP, helping Trump make billions

$TRUMP is designed to facilitate this kind of brazen corruption

Brutal but near perfect analysis of what we're up against. But this is a fight we can win.
