I’m a little late to the party, but ASSORTED CRISIS EVENTS from @imagecomics.com is the real deal. @denizcamp.bsky.social, @ericzawadzki.bsky.social & Jordie Bellaire have done something special — this feels like the f***ed up love child of 2000s era Vertigo and books like Asterios Polyp. Get on it!

We watched YOUR MONSTER yesterday. Such an oddball mix of NY indie rom-com, Pixar-style Giant Blinking Metaphor, and… Feminist rage flick?

I kinda loved it.

I may have gone a little crazy on “retail therapy” here. Was in my old neighborhood, so I had to drop by Music Millennium…

Been on a Gil Scott-Heron kick lately… and this album is SO good.

Treated myself to a slab of childhood nostalgia.

These are some of the earliest comics I plucked off of spinner racks. Micronauts, in particular, were a perfect comics entry for a kid who had just seen the most amazing spectacle of his first 5 years… a little indie flick called STAR WARS.

Okay i am super into this Basquiat-print rug we bought as part of our little home makeover. Still in progress, but this makes me happy.

I’m not even sure why, but “luposlipophobia” is one that has nestled into my brain like inoperable shrapnel. Happy birthday Gary Larson!

Back at work today. Y’know, I really do enjoy my work — both in writing and design/production. Definitely helps that I have fantastic collaborators, teammates and peers in both the comics and design communities.

I don’t often talk about my day job as a graphic designer, but I work for a pretty good company. Case in point: today is the company’s “global recharge day,” a random company-wide day off. So I’m chillin in a cafe with a smoke oat scone and a book.

Since this is a new platform, I guess I should do a little promotion for new followers or friends who missed out. My latest book with Chris Anderson is SPECTRAL, and you can get your copy here: https://spectralcomic.com/ #horror #horrorcomics #makecomics #indiecomics

THE BEAR S2E6 reaction as I watch:

“God, this is so intense… wait, she’s in this? Ugh, can they just slow down for a — oh my god, he’s in this, too? This chaos is just… wait, how many guest stars is too many… oh shit, I like him! Wait, wait, slow down… holy… omg, LOVE HER but get me off this ride!”

Just finished and what’s up next: I love Megan Abbott’s prose and her ability to infuse any situation with a creeping noir-ish dread that feels like it’s always been there and you just haven’t bothered to look. Beware The Woman invokes all the gothic tropes but makes them very modern/relevant.

Still thinking about INFINITY POOL a couple of days after watching it. Definitely sticks with you — both visually and in story. The fleshy apple doesn’t fall too far from the Cronenberg tree, but I think Brandon’s story choices here — sorta Kafka meets PKD — is really what resonates.
