Underfunding is, of course, at the root of the problem with our justice system but that will take years to put right. In the meantime, short term measures must be put in place to mitigate the backlogs.

So what is the alternative approach to dealing with the massive injustice caused by the Tory backlogs in the system?

The public always wants "change" - but more specifically change for everybody else, not themselves. Any real change has to go through a backlash phase until it becomes the new normality. Sadly, this phase can last longer than a single parliament - and so change can easily be thwarted.
