The Woolwich Division of the Royal Marines was established in 1805 so a move from Portsmouth to Woolwich around this time could well suggest a Royal Marine link.

I know you know this but just to clarify, Valuation Office records for the whole of England/Wales are available at the National Archives. Local record offices also hold separate collections of records generated (locally) by the Valuation Office. You don’t have to wait for them to be released online!

The Land Tax registers (available for London on Ancestry) and an insurance record, indexed in The London Archives catalogue.

The records of the Tithe Commission can help with this (for the 1830s/1840s) and the Valuation Office (for the 1910s).

I was wondering this myself just a few weeks ago. I was trying to work out whether two people were father and son and I had examples of both of their seals. I had hoped that I might see that they were the same but they weren't, so, effectively, I learned nothing!
