Middle-aged man living in Belfast, Northern Ireland. I like wargaming, miniatures and boardgames. Even GW things, especially Blood bowl.
I've published boardgames with White Dog Games and Dietz. Own chickens and sighthounds. Foodie. Autistic kids.
Played games at Boundary brewery boardgames night. Flamme Rouge, a clever cycling game where you have to manage your riders carefully to emerge victorious. Survive: Escape from Atlantis, a silly fun game about escaping a shrinking island while avoiding whales, sharks and sea monsters.

Möckern, 1813, at the battle of Leipzig. My French cavalry prepare to advance to prop up the crumbling defences on the hill which are being routed by Prussians. Spoiler: they failed, but their artillery did not and made the hill very much a no-go area for the Prussians. 15mm minis.

Back to the 1798 United Irishmen rebellion and this time they won without the French ever making it over to help. A first.

Another 3-player game of Arabian Struggle and House Saud wins again. Unfortunately, this time I was playing the Rashidis. Good comeback from the Saudis who looked wiped out in the first era with me talking a big lead, but they came back with lots of attacks right at the end to overtake for the win.

Who wants a bloody Ottoman mehter band matching towards them? Me, apparently as my Russians run into the whole Grand Vizier's army and have to withdraw in some haste. 1807 campaign game.

3 player game of "Una Vittoria Impossibile: Le Barricate di Parma del 1922". It's a pure cooperative game with lovely meeples. You have to defend Parma from Mussolini's fascist squads. We almost did it, but the final fascist attacks were too strong.

3 player game of Arabian Struggle and my Saudis emerge victorious. Very well designed game. #Wargame

Some silliness. Working on a game about incompetent sailors trying to find the North West Passage.

Bought and assembled Cheapass Games' pdf "One False Step" which is about building rockets and firing the inhabitants of 1859 California to the moon in order to become governor. Yes, really.

Turns out to be a combination of expanding towns while also upgrading rocket systems. 3 players. I lost.

1798 rebellion. As per history, the French utterly failed to turn up and, despite a brief capture of Belfast, the United Irishmen were pushed into Donegal and I won.

Learning game of Congress of Vienna. This one is very complex. Took us 2 hours to muddle through one turn of 10.

Playtesting The Charge, a light-hearted wargame about the charger of the light brigade. I got 67 of required 70 victory points here. So close. But then I also lost most of the light brigade, so it was a grand failure which unfortunately I couldn't blame on a subordinate.

Boardgames at a friend's house. First was Kahmaté, a very thinky rugby game. Then Kill Dr. Lucky, a not very thinky Cheapass Games product.

I really like some of the Cheapass Games (I own Witch Trial) and I think you can still buy them, but as PDFs.

Not bad. Just about got into the average scoring zone after a terrible start.

It's 1805 and, blissfully unaware of Ulm or Austerlitz, my Austrians spring an ambush in what we think will beat the Bavarians, but then the ambushers become the ambushees as a load more Bavarians turn up and send most of the Austrians fleeing. Piquet rules.

At set-up, end of 1918. Needs control markers.

Is this silly?

Still playing our War of the 3 nations campaign. It's the end of 1642 and there is a battle in Ireland. Covenants, besieged by Royalists and their Irish allies, attempt to break out of Belfast to reach a small Parliamentarian force sent to help them.

Another playtest of my Spanish Civil War game. Franco (me) won this one after some big battle outside Madrid decimated the Republic's army.
