Older but not necessarily wiser.
Phil Thompson nearly ran me over and Sammy Lee told me I look like Eric Clapton. Not sure which was worse.
Once complimented on my beard by Jeremy Corbyn.
Would put cauliflower and Mick Hucknall into Room 101.
Because if there's one thing I really need right now, it's more suggestions for great albums that I might not have heard.

313/365 Joni Mitchell 'Clouds'

It's just beautiful, this.
As with a lot of these, it's a bit of a mood album. It wouldn't be my 'go to' one for when I feel like dancing around the house with excitement, but for a grey Saturday morning soundtrack while cleaning the kitchen, it's glorious.

312/365 Cheap Trick ‘All Washed Up’

Another new one.
I used to sometimes knock about with a lad, a mate of a mate, who relentlessly took the piss out of Cheap Trick. He was a massive Smiths fan.
He'd hate this, because it's exactly as expected. Big riffs, big choruses, big harmonies.
I loved it.

311/365 Suicide (S/T)

It came highly recommended, this one.
Definitely a mood album. I can’t imagine ever playing it on a warm sunny summer day. But it might be the perfect soundtrack for an early commute in late November, the morning after a 4-1 home defeat.
Which is handy.

310/365 Sade ‘Diamond Life’

So it seems that Sade is the name of both the band *and* the singer. Bit like Alice Cooper, but with fewer snakes. Never knew that.
As for the music, it’s smooth and silky.
Can’t see me rushing to play it again soon, but it’s tuneful and she can definitely sing.

309/365 Syd Barrett 'The Madcap Laughs'

I've never really been into the cult of Syd. I don't mind early Floyd but prefer their later stuff.
As for this, there's some good stuff on here, but some of it was genuinely painful to listen to, in a "this is awful" way as well as a "sad backstory" one.
November 26, 2025 at 10:20 AM
308/365 Bloodywood ‘Rakshak’

I hadn’t heard of these until a mate said yesterday that he’d seen them the other night. “Fucking insane” is how he described them, and he’s right, in the best possible way.
It’s metal, mixed with bhangra, mixed with elements of rap, and I absolutely *love* it.
November 26, 2025 at 8:36 AM
307/365 The Cramps ‘Songs The Lord Taught Us’

A lad I used to work with had a theory that The Damned weren't a punk band, they were a rock band who just weren’t very good at the start.
I thought of that while listening to this. Rough, bit shambolic.
I didn't mind it, but in no rush to listen again.
November 25, 2025 at 2:35 PM
306/365 The 1975 (S/T)

I was more than ready to dislike this. When I've seen them on telly on the highlights from festivals I've thought "meh", and the tales of Healy being an arse seem to at least equal, if not outnumber, the ones of him being sound.
So imagine my surprise when I loved it.

305/365 Millie Jackson 'Caught Up'

Clever idea, taking a story of an affair and having half the album from the perspective of the mistress and half from the wife. It could easily be corny or, well, crap, but it's done really well.
Musically it's great, and her voice is brilliant.
A win all round.

Greetings from the 10th tier.

304/365 Grace Jones ‘Nightclubbing’

I was 4 when this came out and to me Grace Jones is either the lunatic who clouted Russell Harty or Bond’s May Day.
But this is a really interesting listen.
Parts that scream 80s, parts that could be from today, sometimes in the same song.
Unexpectedly great.

303/365 The Kooks 'Inside In, Inside Out'

Apparently a lot of these songs are about Katie Melua. I can imagine she's a pretty good muse, when she's not counting bicycles.
I recognised more of them than I thought I would.
Mostly sounds like a better, more in tune Libertines, without the drama.

302/365 The Jimi Hendrix Experience 'Axis: Bold As Love'

If it does nothing else, this exercise has got me listening to the albums of some big artists who I've known 'the obvious ones' by, but never dug deep.
Another example here.
It's brilliant, obviously. What did you think I was going to say?

301/365 Pale Waves ‘Who Am I?’

One of the things I’m enjoying most about this is when the “oh, so *that’s* what they sound like” is a pleasant one - as it is here.
Lyrically it’s a mixed bag, some great lines alongside some sixth form poetry, musically it's catchy pop with big guitars. Excellent.
November 16, 2025 at 4:20 PM
300/365 My Chemical Romance 'Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge'

Big riffs, big choruses, and a Daily Mail campaign against them. Three things I love in a band.
I saw them at Download in 2007, a bit cynical as to what they'd be like, and thought they were great. So is this.
Better late than never.
November 15, 2025 at 4:21 PM
299/365 Nick Lowe ‘The Rose Of England’

I knew Nick Lowe the producer before I heard any of his own material. Turned out he's another who I don’t think I’ve ever heard anything I didn't like.
This follows that path. Just great songs.
I bet he cooks a great Sunday dinner as well.
Awful cover though.
November 15, 2025 at 11:50 AM
298/365 Psychedelic Furs 'Book Of Days'

My Furs listening hasn't gone this far into their catalogue, and this came as a bit of a surprise. Parts of it almost start to veer towards metal. Definitely a lot harder than 'Pretty In Pink'.
Reviewers at the time didn't take to it.
I thought it was great.
November 13, 2025 at 7:09 PM
297/365 Salad ‘Drink Me’

I remember these mainly for having an MTV VJ singer and being in NME a lot.
Starts out sounding like a bit of an ‘indie by numbers’ effort, and then the guitarist realises that his amp has a volume dial.
They’ll never be my favourite band but I’ll definitely play it again.
November 13, 2025 at 10:57 AM
296/365 The National ‘Boxer’

There have been quite a few bands during this listening spree whose work I’m looking forward to digging into some more. These are another of those.

Being interesting musically and having quality songwriting is a pretty good combination and they absolutely nail it.
November 13, 2025 at 7:21 AM
295/365 Diana Ross & Marvin Gaye 'Diana & Marvin'

A total free hit, this, and a welcome one after whatever Throbbing Gristle was.
It's fantastic, obviously, and I'm going to make it my mission in life to get a jumper like the one Marvin's wearing on the cover.
November 11, 2025 at 1:14 PM
294/365 Throbbing Gristle ’20 Jazz Funk Greats’

This one was always a risk. I feel I should apologise to @thecenci.bsky.social for it.
As titles go, ’42 Minutes You’ll Never Get Back’ would also work, and it's more accurate.
I can cope with weird and experimental, but I just don’t get this, at all.
November 10, 2025 at 8:29 PM
293/365 Example ‘Playing In The Shadows’

Another one where I knew the name but never listened to.
Again there were some tracks that reminded me of unenjoyable nights in bad clubs, but overall alright.
Not going to sign up for the pre-sale for tour tickets, but might give another album a go.
November 10, 2025 at 3:43 PM
292/365 Sweet 'Desolation Boulevard'

Some glam stuff has aged terribly, some still sounds great today. This is in the latter group, thankfully.
Riffs that some modern bands would kill for, and huge choruses. Proof that quality is timeless.
Drum solos on record are even worse than live ones though.
November 8, 2025 at 12:08 PM
291/365 Spain 'The Blue Moods Of Spain'

Legend has it that when Rick Rubin heard this, he bought 30 copies to give to friends.
It's an interesting one. Parts are beautiful, and musically it's very good, but it's also slow, and GOD it drags.
I'd love to hear a sped up version that only lasts 40mins.
