It seems like it takes expertise in the field to know how to separate the garbage from the good. This excerpt is troubling. I'm not against AI in general, but the way it's being pushed ignores all of these concerns.
We were very excited to have an exact solution to a question which we had been curious about for years, especially because one direction of the proof was due to an AI. However, we soon learned that the same tight bound (as well as a different proof of the matching upper bound) had appeared on Arxiv nearly 3 years previously in the short paper [Alo24]. In fact, GPT-5’s proof of the lower bound was exactly the same as Alon’s! Thus, it appears that GPT-5 reproduced Alon’s proof and passed it along to us without realizing its source. As it turns out, a fresh attempt at querying GPT-5 Pro was able to recover this source, as depicted in Figure II.4. Our experience illustrates a pitfall in using AI: although GPT-5 possesses enormous internal knowledge and the capability to locate even more using the internet, it may not always report the original information sources accurately. This has the potential to deceive even seasoned researchers into thinking their findings are novel. We expect that our experience is not unique, and urge others to take special care in attribution when working with LLM-assisted proofs.

Trying a new Irish Language app called Sionnach and when creating my profile it asks me what dialect I'd like to learn (nice). However, this made me laugh.
ICYDK - There are 4 provinces in Ireland and none of them are called "Other".
Picklist of Irish dialects you'd like to learn. They are arranged by province - Connacht (West Ireland), Ulster (North), Munster (South), and "Other" because we don't talk about Leinster I guess. (That's not the reason, but it is funny to me.

Not sure if it's so stealth, but Matthew Sweet's "Girlfriend" has got to rank as one of the best of the 90s. In fact, few artists had a better run of albums in the 90s than Sweet. They're all pop-rock perfection.

A collection of Fighting Fantasy books by Jackson and Livingstone - including Starship Traveller and Island of the Lizard King. I'm positive both of these, if not more, are still in my parent's basement after having travelled an ocean with me as a kid.
