Things are really progressing on this Hertfordshire project. The guys have been working really hard, the paving looks amazing. Just a few more areas to work on.

Totally agree - I often use Viola 'Lemon Chiffon', and did so in the welcome planter.

The ones in the urns are Viola 'Honey Bee' as the colours work better with the tulips that are planted.

Urns planted up for winter on one of our Hertfordshire projects.

A mix of tulips, with some violas and wallflowers. Quite simple but when all the tulips pop up there will be little room for anything else.

November and some of my plants are just starting to flower.

Correa backhouseana, a southern hemisphere native will flower throughout the winter months.

Lighting shows how important structure is in a garden. Trees, topiary and grasses all bringing their A game.

Just after all the public have left, I have a few minutes to enjoy the uninterrupted scenes at RHS Wisley Glow.

First frost of the season... Foolishly had my hair cut yesterday 🤣🤣🤣

Heading into Covent Garden to do some bulb planting 🌱

No frost this morning, but there is already a frost on the cars this evening.

Can we go back to mild weather 🤣🤣🤣

Here they come....

Winter scented plants are coming into flower....

Coronilla valentina subsp. glauca 'Citrina', although I think the common name Bastard Senna is a taking it a bit far 🤣

What grass is this?

Setaria pumila/Yellow Bristle Grass? Appeared in an area next to pastures, Herts UK.

V attractive, catching the evening sun.

Safe to gather seed & distribute in some in our wild grass areas/meadows, or will it take over?

When you find bindweed and make it your mission to remove as much root as you can!

All plants removed where possible, cleaned up the roots and will be replanted in due course as this revamp makes progress.

About three trugs of bindweed roots removed.

Unfortunately the main tree had to be removed, but part of the tree remains on the project....

Now to have some fun and incorporate the chestnut into a new area.

We've been lucky!

Noticed decline on this majestic horse chestnut in spring. Tree surgeon advised it was rotting inside, decision to keep for summer but remove before worst of winter storms

It was only being held up by a few cms of firm wood. Miracle it didn't fall.

Working on front garden makeover, new planting gravel paths. Simple & easy to look after for this older couple

Far side of the garden hadn't been changed in 40yrs, just maintained

Good to return to Twickenham, they were one of my first customers, many, many years ago

Absolutely dripping with berries.

Symphoricarpos usually look underwhelming to me, I don't know if the weather has been agreeable if it's a good cultivar?

What a wet day!

At least it put my new waterproof coat to the test.

I had to wring out my gardening gloves multiple times though 🤣

Attention grabbing!

A Japanese Maple leaf gently dropped onto the new paving being installed.

Naturally I had to take a pic.

For #WildflowerHour on the subject of #WildFungiHour a fungi that we don't necessarily want to find in the garden - Honey Fungus 🍄‍🟫

Here it's on Prunus autumnalis.

'Tis the season.

Honey fungus found, old birch tree died, removed & cherry planted.

Hypothesis HF was on remaining lrg birch roots, moved onto new cherry.

All roots, rhizomorphs removed, soil dug over deeply + tools, boots cleaned thoroughly.

Will sow grass, leave 1yr to assess.

On a cold, wet, windy Thursday morning thought I would share the warm glow of this Acer palmatum (Japanese Maple) at the end of the driveway on a Hertfordshire project.

Sadly the majestic horse chestnut needs to come down for safety reasons - so all the planting being lifted next week.
