What a way to end a week! Got my hands on a couple of Data General One laptops ! 😍 These (unfortunate ) laptops from the mid 1980s were quite one of their kind! A Minicomputer manufacturer making personal laptops? Preposterous 🤯

Expect an unboxing and demo video soon! ❤️

☝️ zsh pro tip: If you are using 'vi' mode in Zsh, and want to edit your current command using your $EDITOR, these three lines in your .zshrc will enable you to do so by hitting `Esc` + 'v'

Rust 🦀 + Postgres 🐘 + sqlx compile time queries = ♥️

If my SQL is wrong, the compiler actually catches it! 😍

For all Rust 🦀 and AWS SDK fans out there. Here is how you can limit the max retries of your SDK calls. Very useful if you are invoking Lambda functions, that could cause a cascade of invocations!

Do you use multi-threading/parallel processing? 🤔

Last night I started looking into parallel processing with Rust 🦀. And, for the first time, I ran into *semaphores*.

The way semaphores are implemented in Rust and Tokio, is so elegant!
I will be digging deeper into this, so expect some content! ❤️

Back in 1980 you could lease a Tandy TRS 80 Model II for your business. For a whopping $250 / month (around $975 today). Or ... you could pay the "$7000 in value" (~ $27 000 today) for the whole system 😅

Thought of you @thevowel.bsky.social

It's the hardest of languages it seems 😅 Keeps getting all these new frameworks.

But, I did test it. And I don't really think its serialization. I takes the same time for a big and a small query.
I need to inject some tracing into it to see what is the bottleneck.
But, yeah, my Python sucks 😭

I think Rust 🦀 Lambda functions may be a tad bit faster than Python ones! 🤩

The fascinating part about collecting old computer books is that sometimes … just sometimes I find the original receipt for it ❤️

I am not sure what Waldenbooks is, but it seems America finds it there 😅

It's very easy to go ahead and ask Amazon Q: "How do I draw a chessboard in Rust". But sometimes, I like to do these kinds of exercises myself. 🦀

When I need to work out stuff like this, a piece of paper and a code editor is all I need! Much to the chagrin of my high school self - Math is fun! 🥳
