Encouraging response when I asked the Health Minister if he thought the Misuse of Drugs Act (1971) was outdated and needlessly punished people in NI in a debate earlier this week -

The Member is taking me into the area of a different debate, and it is a debate that I would very much welcome the House having, including our debating taking a position on whether we are in the right place, and have been since the early 1970s, or whether it is time to look at taking a different approach. Again, for me, the fundamental is to look at the causes of the causes and how we address them.’

A year on from the end of the DUP boycott of government in NI it shouldn’t be forgotten that Assembly is as stable today as it was the day before the last collapse. We need to reform the institutions so that no one party can veto government in NI and prevent future collapses. #EndRansomPolitics

It was a huge privilege to serve the people of East Antrim in the NI Assembly throughout 2024. My hope is that 2025 will be the year that we reform the institutions to make them stable and work for everyone. #HappyNewYear #EndRansomPolitics

If you’re in Whitehead on Friday or Saturday please support the Music and Mind Christmas Sit Out in any way you can. Donate some food, make up a hamper, put some money in the bucket or come along to the community walk.

Noel McKee will be sitting outside the Whitehead Community Centre on Kings Road on Friday 20th and Saturday 21st of December from 9am to 7pm each day. He will be taking food donations for the Whitehead Storehouse - the local food bank - and any Pick Me Up hampers that people in the town have put together to be delivered to those in the community who have struggled with ill health, bereavement or loneliness in the past year. There will also be a bucket collection for the Salvation Army’s homelessness projects in Northern Ireland. At 7:45 am on Saturday 21st there will be a community walk along Blackhead path to welcome the dawn on the shortest day of the year.

It’s been 25 years since devolution in NI and I’m very proud to be serving the people of East Antrim in this place today. But for much of that time it was not functioning. We need our politics to be stable so we can work together to improve peoples lives. #EndRansomPolitics

Christmas tree up at work! For first time MLAs this will be our first Christmas in a functioning Assembly. May there be many more. 🎄

Weekend well and truly over. Lots on today in the Assembly including events run by Heart Failure Warriors discussing improving care for people here living with Heart Failure and Caleb’s Cause NI ‘Hear Our Voices’ discussing post 19 special educational needs. Both very important issues.

Loved @idlesband.bsky.social in Belfast last night. Amazing atmosphere and an unreal show full of big singalongs. Big props to support band Chalk who were fantastic.

It was fantastic to join my Alliance Party Assembly colleagues Nick Mathison & Kellie Armstrong on Strangford Lough today to visit the next generation marine hydrokinetic turbine being tested by ORPC ltd & @qubelfast.bsky.social . There is huge potential for tidal energy in NI ! #CleanEnergy

Nice to visit Carnlough library today. As well as providing a wide selection of books for borrowing they are a real hub of the community with lots of regular activities and special events.

Another very comfortable blood donation thanks to Dougie and the NI blood transfusion service team in Larne this evening. If you can give blood it’s easy to do so and it will make a huge difference to someone who really needs it. #GiveBlood 🩸
