I'm thinking a part of this is the incentive to pick high level leadership of education based on ability to fundraise, which is just not the skill set of use right now.

The data part of me would hope to use that for a long term comparison between similar size systems with more liberal boarding policy to show non-inferiority of the board for spinal injury over x number years with increased time-on-scene, but I've never found that those studies ever convince anyone.

Boarding has largely disappeared which I didn't think would happen as fast as it did, maybe collars just need more time.

It was pretty eye opening for my wife and I, academic hiring discussions I overheard would explicitly down-rate childless younger women because they assumed they would a) want children relatively soon and b) wouldn't come back full-time afterwards. (this was 10+ yrs ago)

When we lived in Switzerland during my post-doc we (from US) were continually shocked how much of the "convenience" was based on the assumption that a parent was always home. No lunch served at school, random half days, etc...

There is a bean to cup machine at my work that has a button labeled "regular coffee" It's just an Americano and I think it's only there to punish us for thinking we could get decent work machine drip coffee.

I describe these bedtime struggles to folks without kids as "cuddling with a warm 20 lb sack of melatonin for an hour." Even when I don't fall asleep it makes me useless for any cognitive work afterwards.

"weak" has several meanings so not sure we completely align on that. It looks like the authors did the appropriate study for the data set they had access to, I'd put this more on the editors for allowing the conclusion to be worded the way it is.

I have an irrational preference to use doxy only for weird or insect related, it's my personal stewardship plan. And as you point out it really is a low absolute risk change we're talking about here. Possibly real but likely unimportant in the risk trade of under treating
