Yet, each MAT needs a CEO + back office teams (CFO etc). These are additional costs, money that is not spent on teaching and learning.

I am concerned that vast amounts of money, time, capacity have been used to recreate a system that is no better than before. Just different, with same variation.

My understanding is that this thread is about trust structures, hierarchies and use of public money.

It is not suggesting that schools in trusts do not work to support students to the best of their ability.

Does being in a trust make a school better? Not sure that has been established.

Interesting that they've been to Chicago. Issues of later start times are very different in the US, I remember. But I'm sure it will be fine.

It is interesting.

I would have thought they might be wary of looking to the US for solutions. They have not always worked out so well in the UK.

Other countries are available (and even other schools in the UK!)

It is hard to quantify “good”-such an emotive word. An EYs charity where everyone works with the children certainly makes a powerful impact on children

Someone sitting at the top of a hierarchy- like MAT- depends on those around. In some cases those around are the ones who are effective… or “good”

p.s. I can kind of understand why people might want to make their classes 'read with a ruler' because it probably feels 'efficient' but can we also think about the message it sends which is basically that reading is only for content? Personally I don't think I could cope with reading like that. 🤷‍♀️

Could it also have something to do with the way that reading has become a bit mechanised in approach? I'm thinking about some of the things children say about phonics and also certain techniques to 'ensure' young people read along. Are we sending the msg that reading is technical not emotional? 2/2
