I’m back here briefly to say that the Guardian’s asking for nominations for your favourite children’s picture book and I’d be thrilled if you’d nominate my debut: MY NANNA IS A NINJA. www.theguardian.com/culture/2025...

Hey, nerds. I’ll be taking a social media break until next year.

There’s nothing wrong, I’ve just had enough!

I hope you have a great end of year, folks.

Now here’s a cheesy video repeating much of what I’ve just said:

Never buy comics, kids. Just don’t do it.

(I will absolutely buy more comics.)

It’s maddening! I use a Leuchtturm for my assorted notes and observations, and A4 Clairefontaine spiral bound notebooks for my ongoing fiction and nonfiction projects.

“When I was little, my father was famous.

“He was the greatest samurai in the empire, and he was the shōgun's decapitator.

“He cut off the heads of a hundred and thirty one lords.

Here are some nice things that other picky nerds have said about IMMORTAL GESTURES.

It’s out now in Australia, the UK and USA. (Translations to follow.)

As we near Christmas, you might be worried about what to buy the picky nerd in your life.

Don’t worry. I got you.

My new book IMMORTAL GESTURES is an intellectual romp.

It’s not condescending. It doesn’t claim to edify you.

It’s a curious look at what our bodies mean — and how they mean it.

So, here’s a cheap new bookcase for the study.

It has coffee table books — mostly art and gardens — and a bunch a books by me on top.

(I need to put all those Norwegian translations in a box.)

In the background is my wife’s bureau. And the rock we use to hold the door open in summer.

I’m editing my essay on Gene Wolfe and literary influence.

I decided to treat myself by using a green ink my daughter gave me a couple of years ago: Vert réséda, by J. Herbin.

A very light green. Fresh.

Teenaged Damon was slightly more flexible than middle aged Damon.
