I caved and subscribed to F1TV this year for the same reason. Not having to miss racing action whilst being force fed yet another of the same 5 ads is 100% worth it!

I have an old refurbished Samsung tablet that I use 90% for ebooks via Libby, the library app. It does the job, and if I lose it while travelling or drop it in the bath, it’s no great loss. An old iPad would do as well.

So you have to wait to borrow a book, e-book, or audiobook from the library? Getting those notifications that something you put on hold (and maybe forgot about) weeks or months before is like book lover’s Christmas! An unexpected delight. Embrace it. 🙂

Oh, do F1 teams also have to hunt through all of the menus to find some way to turn off all of the bloody “AI” crap that’s been shoved into their work software to no good or useful end? Or is it more like they have to spend more time checking or undoing all of the A.I. hallucinations and errors?

Those “Your hold is ready to pick up” notifications are like a little bit of Christmas all through the year 🙂📚

Absolutely spot on. I’m an editor and I know all the quirks and cadences of my authors, even without names attached. Same for my frequent interlocutors via email, social media, etc. It’s a super power that must be wielded judiciously.

A friend of mine says “Brains are assholes sometimes” and I find that oddly comforting.

This excellent article reminds us that most of the highly impactful inventions that have immeasurably improved our lives originated from basic research. At the time this basic research was being conducted it was unclear where it was leading. But the scientists persisted with dogged determination.

My brother and I were recently musing that kids just don't TP houses and places of business at Halloween like they did in OUR day... 🤨😁
