Seriously though, its not as big of a story as NYC, but Virginia flipped 15! seats yesterday including the Governor, Lt Gov, and AG. We went from barely holding a 51 majority in the state house to 63! Take note!

Them: What's the standard for this?
Me: This
Them: I don't like the standard, can we change it?
Me: For what?
Them: For this custom thing
Me: We dont have a standard for that custom thing
Them: Then what should be standard for this custom thing?
Me: Its custom, go talk to who made it!

Here here! If there's anything 25 years of coding CSS has taught me is that the road to the present is filled with ways to write CSS that no longer exist and have died off. Regular ol' CSS is a constant that will always work, and will always be the most valuable skill. Hell, it's never been better.

I know tailwind already gets so much flak, but here's some more...

It's failing our young developers. They're not actually learning CSS.

CSS is transferable. Tailwind is not.

This is my hill.

How do folks handle education around the topic of truncation? I find this is the fallback for designers who want "prettier" layouts and engineers implementing "responsive" design.

How do you show them how terrible the UX of it is? Or force them to think through how users access the full content?

Contribution in design systems is mostly people applying a go faster stripe to their own car and then asking Honda to include it as standard.

I'm hiring, again! I'm looking for a strong (senior+) design-engineer (full 50/50 split) to join our design system team. Come bring the craft back to UI design!

CSS mixins & functions are coming! And the best way to prepare is by re-visiting CSS variables.

Don’t let the Guaranteed Invalid value & Invalid at Computed Value Time behavior trip you up. Watch my CSS Day talk, or book a workshop to go in depth with modern #CSS!

I'm realizing just how important it is for design systems to be in the same meetings with product leadership. Our goals need to align with company goals. Otherwise, we may be fighting against each other unintentionally.

No, AI will not make me a faster coder. It, too, has no clue what our linter rules are!

#Disabled folks, particular people who use assistive technology for web browsing, how do you feel #accessibility has been improving or not over the last few years?

This is for a talk I want to write about the actual impact of accessibility regulations and compliance. Boosts and thoughts welcome!

You'd get lost all the time. But then you'd actually learn the area, so next time, you'd remember and wouldn't need directions.

Ok Figma, I know i give you a lot of flack, but holy cow, is AI image search the bees knees!

I had about 15 screenshots from 30 designers spread across an ungodly amount of files. It found each actual design frame in seconds.

So, yes, I humbly say thank you.

'accessibility is difficult' is a shitty blanket statement. 'accessibility is made way more difficult by using shit frameworks and ui libraries with inaccessibility baked in' is not.

if you're sacrificing semantic html for div soup you're gonna have a shit time no matter what.
