Doctoral student focused on game-based assessment of non-cognitive constructs…and anything with games and learning that spark my interest. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I also love, live, and breath data science and stats.

Just got added to the banned list of apps in Florida. And thus blocked from use at #FSU.

Breath of the Wild and Starfield are the only two I’ve genuinely done exactly this before.

I tried Jenova the last time you responded to me. I asked it to write some fairly basic code for data analysis and it lagged out. While I waited I asked #ChatGPT. I finished my work for the day before finally just closing @jenova.ai and giving up on it.

How important is the skill of writing now if #AI can write in the exact tone and style needed for typical research writing? Doesn’t it also help make the field more equitable for non-native English speakers?

What’s the limit for letting Chat write for us? Especially when all the ideas are ours?

I agree and I think that’s the real question people are going to struggle with. English teachers are going to throw a fit. lol.

I agree 100% with that. But then is this the death of conveying ideas outside of 130 characters? 😂 What if the skill is to write through a line of reasoning to a cohesive and logical argument ?

Fair. But if it’s refined to be, say “Write an essay comparing and contrasting two key characters from XYZ novel” then you could still just tell Chat to do that. Is there even a point to asking for written essays at that point?

If the student goes with pasting the topic and having chat write the paper, then what is assessed? I like to think of ChatGPT as my personal research assistant. Great for discussion and writing drafts. But I still need to keep a pretty close eye on what it writes.

Where are your numbers from?

I.e., a lack of information literacy as a fundamental skill not being est. at the earliest levels of our educational system. Local units that use to rely heavily on social learning in their communities are now exposed to the firehose of info from social media alone w/o the tools to avoid choking

Maybe we need to redefine “cheating”. If I tell Chat to “write a term paper”, then yea. But if I ask it to revise a sentence, that’s grammarly. What if I spend an hour discussing my topic and then ask it to write a paragraph that captures an idea from our convo. Is that cheating?

I was exploring why the Apple App Store was nearly void of decent educational games. Came to the same conclusion. But the cost to host games on the App Store also pushes the need for monetizing. Maybe the whole environment needs to be tweaked. 🍎 👀
