Devin wins at Australian here (BABY ECHIDNA) so I'll do 5 animals I've seen in the "wild" (not very wild) that are weird for me, an Australian:

Squirrels!
Hedgehog
Coati, near Iguazu
Capuchin monkeys, also at Iguazu, raiding the hotel balconies
Rakali (Aussie, but in my local suburban creek!)
i live in the bush so this five animals thing is significantly easier than the five concerts deal, i can even give you some vids of cute baby australian animals so let’s go!

animals i’ve taken pics of at my house, a 🧵

Not to sound like a Gamer Of A Certain Age, but I think it would be good if more games had built-in stretch breaks.

Of all the Black Friday nonsense I'm seeing (and seeing any at all here in Australia is a whole other rant) my favourite is "50% off hair removal".

Like... surely, in that situation, you either want it ALL off or NONE, right?

And it's even harder find something set in regional Australia (and not just "generic desert and/or bush"). Possibly closest for me is this one, at least set in regional Qld, even if I wasn't quite in cane country...

Opting out of AI (again) is not sufficient; I need the option to nuke it from orbit.

Just typoed involvement as "involement" which sounds like a terrible thing to do to a poor innocent rodent...

About 100 pages into WITCH QUEEN OF REDWINTER, concluding the magnificent trilogy by @edmcdonald.bsky.social, and the OT3 is so intense I am just about ready to take a bite out of the scenery. (I love these books for Raine and her complex-young-woman take on Anakin Skywalker; this is gravy.)

Does anyone do a bourbon-barrel-aged imperial stout advent calendar? (They should!)

Failing that, champagne!

I contain multitudes. (Of booze, apparently... 🥂)
everything is bonkers right now and we need a timeline cleanse. let’s play a game. if I handed you a blank check but you could ONLY spend it on an Advent calendar, what absurdly pricy collection of little treats are you buying yourself?

This weather is making my knee ache, and I don't remember ever getting an arrow in it, but I did play a lot of netball in my teens and I'm given to understand that's more or less the same thing... 😢

What outstanding advice. (As one often enjoys from @melissacaruso.bsky.social!) Embrace the edit. Thrive in the edit. Take the raw marble of your writing and turn it into the David it can truly be! (I love the edit. I yearn to be done with this first draft so I can leap joyously into the edit!)
And with advice on writing- don’t leave your writing as it starts, think about how cool it could be. Don’t leave it at the magikarp stage. Do not fear the edit, embrace the edit.
