Some small updates to the 'minimalist' version of my Sydney map -- just getting some more satisfying alignments between the western branches! The Western and Richmond lines are now the same length west of Blacktown, as are the Leppington and South lines from Glenfield.

Recoloured my map to mimic the visual styles of the 1998-2004 and the 2004-2013 CityRail maps! The colours of the 2004- map especially gives me such a nostalgic feeling

The Beck-inspired era of Sydney transit maps was followed by the introduction of a very '70s, Vignelli-esque look that I am obsessed with. The dark-theme 1979 diagram made by the PTC for the opening of Martin Place Station is a big influence on my main personal map project!

A great article that traces the early development of Sydney's transit maps, with a lot of interesting examples! The influence of Beck's design style up until the 70s was a big inspiration for my own 2020s TfL-style Sydney map.

I've had the occassional comment that my map contains information aimed at transit fans that may make it more difficult for the average viewer to follow -- so I had a go at making a pared-back version! Only showing the information present on the current official maps (more or less):

i think of them quietly enjoying train rides and all kinds of scenery! and being really into analogue photography and darkroom stuff!

Revamped my 2033 map to give PLR2 more space! Though at the expense of adding a giant gap between Tramway Avenue and Rosehill Gardens on PLR1. The new layout also gives Parramatta Metro station its own label, in anticipation of it being given a separate name which I think is very likely.
