I warmly welcome it and endorse its approach, and accept the principle of all the recommendations it has set out. Labour councillor Jenny Yates, Cabinet Member for Transport, said she understood residents' frustration and that tackling the congestion was a top priority. She told the meeting there were a number of reasons for congestion in Putney, including the closure of Hammersmith Bridge to vehicles in 2019.

Regret to inform that the incorrigible motor lobby of Ealing are still at, this time hysterically opposing a school street. On the plus side, it looks like the council might possibly have finally learned to ignore the shrieking of car brains though, which is better late than never

Rail decarbonisation is a technology problem that has been comprehensively solved for over a century, and that solution is ⚡️electrification⚡️.

New battery tech and discontinuous electrification has now solved for the routes that are too hard to wire. Here I am in 2021 telling the TSC exactly this

Before we dig a little deeper, do you have anything to say, Leo? Leo Murray: The decarbonisation taskforce report said that we need to turn it into a strategy, and now we have the traction decarbonisation network strategy. My only gripe with how one led to the other is that the decarbonisation taskforce report highlighted the fact that, because of the advent of on-board battery storage on rolling stock, it is now possible "to assess electrification across a range of options rather than just a binary yes/no decision," so it is intermittent, discrete electrification. It is a much lower cost option and it is not really explored in the traction decarbonisation network strategy. It does not feature there. It was explicitly excluded for reasons I do not completely understand. To be perfectly frank, our view at Riding Sunbeams is that intermittent electrification is quite likely to be a better option, ultimately, for some of the routes that have been identified for hydrogen. The last point on that is our concern at Riding Sunbeams about hydrogen. Green hydrogen is still a hypothetical at this point. Existing hydrogen feedstocks come from steam methane reformation, and even if you do electrolysis from grid supply power in the UK, you do not get any carbon saving on a diesel hybrid. There is no carbon saving from hydrogen. There is an enormous amount of uncertainty around the future capability of hydrogen to deliver substantial emissions reductions. We are sceptical about its role. Meanwhile, intermittent electrification, which is potentially an alternative option for some of the routes that are difficult to treat with full electrification, does not seem to have been given the time we would have liked to see.

The developers had previously asked for a 90-year contract with the UK government with an average strike price - a guaranteed price for the electricity generated - of £89.90 per megawatt hour. The new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C in Somerset was given a strike price of £92.50/MWh for 35 years.

There seems to be a virtuous circle. Segregated bike lanes increase safety, which leads to more riders, which in turn makes cycling even safer. And if you know someone who cycles, it becomes much more normal for you to try it as well.

The role of petrostates at COP summits is much like the role of foxes in henhouses. As a society we need to start to prepare in earnest for the collapse of the critical systems that keep us all fed, clothed, warm, connected. Because global climate diplomacy is clearly failing.

I put swift bricks into our parapet wall a couple of years ago. Still no joy attracting any tenants but hope springs eternal! If you’re doing any works to high up walls and roofs it’s worth considering adding some
