For over a decade I've been writing an album "about chasing shuttles."

But it's not really a collection of love songs about rockets.

It's about the *people* who made it go from spectacular to life-changing. Which is many of you!
Happy Thanksgiving to all the Americans out there! And I hope everyone else takes a moment to appreciate the people, places, and things they are grateful for, too.

Gratitude really is best practiced all the time, not just on a holiday. ♥️

Feasts are probably best kept to holidays, though.

There is a special place in my heart for every designer and manufacturer who ensures the spray bottles they make always have the straw go all the way to the bottom front to make it easy to use almost every drop of the product.

Thank you for your diligence!

It seems very fitting that the last farmer's market is the Tues before Thanksgiving. I'm starting to think of going to grab apples as the real start to the holiday.

This year's pie will again feature Winesap, Macoun, Gala, and Empire apples grown in Sussex County, NJ. Blend killed last year!

Italian figure skater Matteo Rizzo is skating to Interstellar for his free this year and the commentator keeps saying his steps are supposed to make a "constellation star."

I assume he means the shape of a constellation and am trying to find out which one to no avail so far.

But really cool idea!

I’ve had the honor of working briefly with Sen. Kelly during the Shuttle program. STS-121 was my first and I helped train the crew on the Emergency Egress Slidewire (and the rest of the missions of that program). To see this non-sense from our government is just beyond words.
Sen. Mark Kelly has released a statement.

"If this is meant to intimidate me and other members of Congress from doing our jobs and holding this administration accountable, it won't work. I've given too much to this country to be silenced by bullies..."

The best way to really dig into cleaning is to have something even worse to procrastinate.

This includes different cleaning projects.

The rest of my kitchen is starting to look amazing while I masterfully avoid decluttering the table.

There are two kinds of people:

Those who live by, "Yes, and..." and those who live by, "Yes, but..."

Turning 50 next summer has made me really confront how much I haaaaaaaaaaate my birth date.

I just want to enjoy my birthday one year without heat and misery. Just once. To be able to go outside and enjoy some nature.

Where can I go for July that's *cold* but cheap from North America?

FYI: If you have multiple gmail accounts, the setting to turn off smart features is under each account.
This was so helpful. Thank you!!
If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

Apparently 16 years ago today was my 1st time ever meeting tweeps IRL. 5 met up to see Mike Massimino give a talk to mostly HS students. Great day!

This led directly to SDO and my first launch, + a whole host of new friends and amazing adventures.

Was so nervous to go. 😂

Pet peeve: When people call a meal on actual Thanksgiving a "Friendsgiving" just because it is spent with friends.

That's just Thanksgiving.

I adore Isabeau Levito's skating and think she was born to skate to Zou Bisou Bisou (well, really, the English version, Zoo Be Zoo Be Zoo).

But also a little mad at her for the endless #earworm. That song is catchy af. Even worse, both people in my home sing it non-stop now, so no hope to nix it.

My perhaps controversial assessment is that when you share the propaganda of your enemies to call it out or to mock it… you’re still spreading their propaganda and maybe doing exactly what they hope you’ll do.

#HappyHalloween from the 4077!

First there was the life-sized gnome on our corner carrying a banana costume.

Then there was the sad bunny being comforted by a friend wearing a paper bag for a head.

Is it just #Halloween or did I step outside and into The Sims?

15 years ago today, I started one of the greatest adventures of my life, #STS133 part 1.

13 years ago today I started one of the worst adventures of my life, hurricane Sandy and not being able to go home for 3 months.

Life: Hell comes right to your door, all the good stuff must be sought out.

During these difficult and often-miserable times, certain songs have become staples for keeping me going.

This is one of the most effective, maybe it could help someone else, too...

Not an editor, but a few audio producers, who are the editors of musical ideas and it's really good to have one who is neither the songwriter or artist, because they will almost always improve your music if they are even decent at their jobs.

Last line of defense against yourself!
repost this if an editor has ever saved you from yourself
An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

What do people with keyless cars that aren't chargeable electric ones do to get in when their battery is dead?

I've simply never considered it until I was opening my car with my key to try and jump start it today. I've rented a few keyless models but never had the battery die on me.

Fresh MMR and Tdaps done to kick off 2025 vaccination season.

Just a couple of GenXers listening to scientists instead of assholes. 2 local measles outbreaks=time to make sure our MMRs are still working at full throttle.

Ladies, which annoys you more?

1. A lack of pockets in clothing

Or

2. When they go to all the trouble of putting in pockets that can't hold anything

Katherine Johnson passed away in 2020, at the age of 101.

Editorial cartoonist Steve Breen’s lovely tribute perfectly captured Johnson’s contributions to the US space program. (11/11)

I keep feeling like I need to write another song about why NASA funding is critical to many aspects of our lives and those of basically every being on this planet.

But? Bake Sale still covers most of my thoughts, it's just all that much more dire now.

Hoped it would be antiquated in 2025.

Living the “American dream…”
While I’m waiting on my flight, I thought I’d share a story. Yesterday I had lunch with two NASA colleagues. One is Laotian, the other Cambodian. Both came here as children with their families to flee oppressive regimes. Both are naturalized Americans and federal employees just like me. /1
