The neighbor just showed up with apology flowers. All is forgiven.
Not sure if a mutual neighbor or the cop tipped her off to what I wanted, or if she saw the light, but either way, this is how to do it. With flowers.
Kindness wins.
Happy Thanksgiving.

A plea to nonprofits (but, really to all):
"With millions in the international development and NGO sector still out of work after having the rug pulled out from under us, I humbly ask that when you see someone with 'too much experience' in the pile for one of your jobs that you don’t toss us out."

The Philanthropy subreddit now has 9000 members - a LOT for Reddit. This online group discusses philanthropy (fundraising, funding, volunteering, foudations, etc.) & philanthropists but is NOT a place to ask for money. Also, the group needs more moderators. www.reddit.com/r/Philanthro...

Love that there are always Ukrainian flags at the anti-Presidential protests in Forest Grove, Oregon.

More photos from Forest Grove, Oregon.
If you knew how small this town was, and how it's right on the edge of oh-so-conservative rural Oregon, you would know how impressive this is.

About 800 people turned out for the NO Kings rally in little Forest Grove, Oregon. There wasn't enough room on the tiny lawn around the flag pole so a lot of protesters lined the sidewalks on the street. #nokings

For nonprofits that don't have a specific mission to help immigrants or the marginalized, but have staff wanting urgently for the organization to speak out, SOMEHOW, consider adapting this sign from the Mennonites & displaying it in your lobby or on your front lawn. Easy to find/order online:

On Reddit now.
Hillsboro is outside of Portland. Airport there that's easier to get ICE in and out of.
October 14, 2025 at 4:48 PM
I did not participate in the Portland Naked Bike Ride that went by the ICE facility yesterday. & as you see, even the Unipiper didn't get totally nekkid. It was cold!
But this is what's ACTUALLY happening in PDX, contrary to what the current President of the USA is saying.

This is in response to a question on Perplexity, a free AI thingy that came with my new Android phone.
My first name is spelled incorrectly.
My co-author's last name is entirely incorrect.
In another answer, it called me Dr. Jayne Cravens.
AI is NOT RELIABLE. Always double check its results.

There is a prevailing narrative among many nonprofit "leaders" that people, especially young people, don't want to volunteer and aren't interested in volunteerism. I think the continuous growth of r/volunteer on Reddit shows that that narrative is not true.

NetAid was an anti-poverty initiative, begun as a joint venture by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) & Cisco Systems, launched with a concert & a web site, & was the first global push regarding virtual volunteering. More about NetAid & where it led:

Vintage pot bellied stove from King Stove & Range Co. Put out on curb, for free, by neighbors. Cleaned up a bit, fired it up. SO WARM.

I started it because another online community, where for MANY years I posted info about hacks4good, apps4good, tech4good, community tech centers, ICT4D, ethics regarding such, etc., folded.

One of the subreddits I manage, focused on Philanthropy, now has 8000 members.
Most of my time is spent deleting requests for donations. But there are a few interesting things happening now and again.
If you have questions or thoughts about philanthropy, come share them on Reddit.

This is for sale in the thrift store for the nonprofit I work for & it's weird on so many levels, including a smiling, relaxed Melanie (Olivia de Havilland), who in this scene is actually wracked with horrific labor pains, covered in sweat & looking awful.
