Oregon Native & Amateur urbanist. I made this account to talk about Urbanism and ways to improve this city and make it more livable
It’s difficult to explain to people that:

1) Oregon doesn’t actually spend enough to maintain our current infrastructure

And

2) none of those Highway expansions and road construction will fix traffic

So it’s easy to convince people that this is a pointless tax increase that has no benefit

If you live in Oregon, Please write your reps and tell them to prioritize bus, rail, and maintenance instead of road expansions

And while you’re at it, tell them to support raising taxes on the wealthy to make up for the federal cuts to social safety nets

ODOT has invested an immense amount of time and effort into this project, but the underlying goal was to widen a freeway significantly.

The lane expansion was first and foremost. Plus, given the lack of funding and growing cost, it’s unlikely in any scenario for the lids to be built

Furthermore, we cannot afford this project. The entire #orleg transportation package fight is because ODOT’s maintenance budget is broke.

Yet at the same time the Dept is trying to spend hundreds of millions to add lanes they cannot afford to maintain.

We have to stop this pattern

Highway expansions are not a solution. Besides the massive amount of construction traffic, even after completion congestion returns. Historically, adding more lanes means more driving

If we as a state car about the climate, we should be against this

Continuing to the waterfront we cross several busy streets (after stopping)

- 2nd now has a median island, which helps

- 3rd only has crosswalks

- 4th street has no painted markings. This road has cars slowing down from 45, and the intersection is often blocked

However, there’s a clear missing aspect of this construction. The crossing across 9th street is not built (the city categorizes that as a separate project)

As such, this isn’t really a reliable bicycle crossing during any busy time of day, especially for a casual rider

The neighborhood bikeways are built on side streets that don’t have a lot of through traffic. Improvements include signage, speed bumps, crosswalks, and safety features

This section on Tyler run from the riverfront down to Kings, intersection with the path on 11th

Please notice that these reductions are when #oregonstateuniversity is in session. There are more potential riders, but the system has reduced frequency

I can see 2 potential reasons: either the increased traffic slowed down buses enough they cut frequency, or there are reduced available drivers
