My work showed 'illegal' has been the strongest collocate of 'immigrants' in the Times newspaper since the 1970s

Prior to that, the words most associated with 'immigrants' were:
60s: Commonwealth
50s: coloured
40s: illegal
30s: Jewish
20s: British
10s: Canada
