Meet Darga, a resin print of a sculpture by Animal Den Miniatures of a Przewalski's Horse/takhi stallion in a herding pose. I painted him using chalk pastels, Copic sketch markers & watercolour pencils with Krylon matte varnish as a fixatif. This was my 1st time creating a diorama base!😊❤️

Like all takhi he is a stocky horse with an upright mane, a golden dun coat featuring black points and dorsal stripe, and white markings around his eyes/muzzle. The base he stands on has been decorated with fake grass and flowers, giving an impression of the Mongolian steppe. A right side angle photo of Darga the takhi. A left side angle of Darga the takhi; note the intentional darker patches of fur in his coat, which are meant to represent scars from combat with other stallions in defense of his family. A closeup of Darga's scars, which I am quite proud of because they are realistically portrayed. It is very uncommon for wild or feral horses to not have scars marring their coats.

Looook!!! Churro is sun tanning properly instead of just cryptic basking! He's out in the open! And we must be developing some kind of positive relationship because when he noticed me all he did was flick his tongue once to verify his eyeballs, which I took to be rosy boa for "'sup."

Orange tabby fluff Casper demonstrating how healed his back paw is; today he let me hold & stroke it! 😁 He was slightly confused about why I was so fascinated by his foot, as demonstrated by his perplexed expression, but he gave no sign of being in any pain.❤️❤️❤️🐾
Casper the fluffy orange and white tabby sniffs my hand as I gently grip his left rear paw with one hand. He's confused why I am paying so much attention to it. Casper, still baffled by my handling of his back foot, fixes me with a bemused little frown before standing to put his offended paw on the side of his body furthest from me. He does not understand why I am holding his paw and he would like me to desist, please! He gives no sign of pain, only the displeasure of being weirded out by his human.

My first ever diorama base for a model that I have painted! 🥹❤️ The glittery rocks are real & natural - they are from the shores of a remote reservoir lake in the Canadian Rockies. Fake grass tufts plus yellow & purple flowers hopefully turn this base into a lovely mini meadow.❤️

Ever since I stupidly broke my nano Fluval Marine light one side of my tank has been in actinic shadow (where my fish have been hiding from imaginary seabirds,) while the other has been growing hair algae & cyanobacteria prolifically due to the freshwater light over it. WELL, I have ordered a new 💡!
My 125 gallon aquarium, Purrling Reef, half of which is in actinic blue shadow. Since my yellow watchman goby Clyde died last week, only my damselfish Lazuli hangs out there now, occasionally visited by Tangelo the sixline wrasse and presumably Ribbon the cleaner wrasse (as Lazuli's ich infection vanished overnight. Perhaps Ribbon wasn't taking a trauma nap the night of her adoption but actually enthusiastically nibbling Lazuli clean.) Hidden in vivid blue shadow: my idiot but beloved marine fish. Same as previous but with fish in different places.

I was so scared that she died last night that I didn't even announce that I got her but she reappeared this morning, sooo:

Meet Ribbon! She's a blue streak cleaner wrasse, & she's Purrling Reef's new doctor on staff. So far my existing six line wrasse Tangelo is ignoring her, which is a big relief!
A beautiful, slender little fish whose body is a pastel yellow at her head to pastel blue fade at her tail with a big black stripe on her side. This photo was when Ribbon was still brand new in her bag last night! Ribbon peering at her vast new reef digs. There should be tonnes of room for her to explore and hunt parasites! Ribbon takes a momentary rest in the bag. Ribbon is freee!!! And FAST; she is really hard to photograph so while she is miraculously relatively in focus in this shot, her surroundings of rockwork, cyanobacteria and marine snail shells are a blurr.

Watched Snake Discovery's latest rescue video a few minutes ago & my mind is still boggled over how huge adult ball pythons are compared to my puny baby boa. I'm pretty sure Churro's entire body could fit just inside of a ball python's chonky tail. 😂

The reptile shop's advice has already paid off! 🥹❤️ Churro can now climb closer to his heat lamp sun (which now sports a stronger bulb!) if he feels like it & I walked in to see him doing just that!❤️❤️ (His new thermometer/hygrometer also finally arrived today, yay!)

Casper is home!!! His vet care actually came in under my budget, amazingly, & now he gets to eat fish goop morning & night until his meds run out (shhhh, don't tell him about the medication mixed in...)

Thanks to my dad, Casper's at the vet today! 🥹 Looks like Casper injured a claw & got himself an infected toe, so the doc is giving him anti-inflammatories, fluids, & antibiotics. ❤️🐾

...a behaviour which rosy boas share with ball pythons where they clump themselves into a ball with their head protected in its centre by their coils. It means that they're terrified; I terrified my poor baby snake. Accident or not, I feel awful about it & I promptly tucked him back in his den. 😵‍💫

This has been exhausted rambling; thank you for reading, here is what I wake up to whenever my puny bladder wakes me.
Two adorable snuggly kitties cuddled up together on top of my blanketted body, eyes glimmering green from my phone's flash. One kitty is a fluffy orange and white tabby; the second is a short haired tuxedo kitty. Note that these are both adult cats and that the slang word 'kitty' refers affectionately to a cat of ANY age, not just a baby or neonate. Only the word 'kitten' refers specifically to a baby cat.

Keplar spent the entire evening being cute in my lap then proceeded to look just as cute after I tucked him in with a blanket after I got up. He kept watching me, willing me to return to sitting with him, but alas I betrayed him to go slather minty floride gunk all over my teeth.🥺 Poor boy!!

(Not today, I planted the cactus on Monday!)

I got the $50 cactus on clearance for $2! Its exact species/flower colour is unknown... literally the only info that the nursery had on it was that it was an Opuntia... which isn't really informative at all when ALL* cold hardy cacti are Opuntia.

I got got my internal anti-virus updates yesterday for influenza & covid. I'm sleepy & stiff today & trying to force myself to take a proper day off but so far I am failing utterly at that. 🫠

Also my apple tree looks AMAZING this year in its fall splendour & I planted a hardy cactus finally!
My honeycrisp apple tree George looking completely fantastic with bright golden yellow leaves! This clump of spines is a cold hardy prickly pear (Opuntia) cactus of unknown species and flower colour which I nabbed on clearance. (Literally the only info that the nursery had on it was that it was an Opuntia... which isn't really informative at all when ALL cold hardy cacti are Opuntia.)

Hey biology buddies! ❤️ Any idea if this bristleworm that I just found in my marine aquarium's internal filter is actually a fireworm? I found a couple of these back when I was cleaning substrate from the previous iteration of my aquarium & I'm wondering if this thing might've eaten some MIA fish!
Caught against the clear side of my internal filter us the pinkish red body of a bristly segmented marine worm. Same as previous but with some changes in the worm's pose showing that it hasn't moved. The worm, twisted up into a corkscrew, now removed from the filter housing. A more detailed shot of the worm.
