The end of a very hot day & RFS is reporting 103 fires across NSW. Houses have been lost on the coast. The heat was intense. Far worse inland. 43.9°C at White Cliffs aka 111.02°F. Natural weather is one thing. But, #FossilFuel knows they’re driving global heating, & are responsible. #MakeThemPay 🇦🇺☀️🔥
Up to 16 homes lost as firefighters battle more than 50 fires along NSW coast
More than 1,500 firefighters with 300 vehicles were deployed by the RFS across eastern and central NSW amid extreme heat.

This is the story recounted by Palestine 36 – one that British schoolchildren are never taught, and one that the British media never offer as context for today’s crimes in historic Palestine.
A story of a 1930s uprising against British colonialism is key to understanding Gaza today
‘Palestine 36’ is a potent reminder that the blueprint for Israel's depraved war crimes in Gaza were laid down by a British empire whose tyranny the Palestinians tried - and failed - to end

Woodside are expanding fossil fuels during the climate crisis. They have chosen to be the bad guys. We shouldn't let them launder their reputations through our community institutions.

HEY FRIENDS!! Did you know that Australia - #2 in the world for data centre investment - is now formally missing its climate targets thanks in large part to the resulting surge in power demand?

It's massive news - @crikey.com.au let me NERD OUT to explain why:

I can't compute how someone can read a story like this and still think "the problem is that there are too many regulations and environmental protections", when it comes to the energy transition.

The problem is blatantly that corporate developers remain weirdly excused from scrutiny or culpability

Remarkable to see this finally being uttered out loud but I'm wondering why it took half a decade (including three years under the Labor gov't) for it to be even acknowledged as a problem.

The Free Market sucks at causing a rapid energy transition. Gov't policy can potentially not suck.

- Regulating oversized urban tanks or even discouraging their purchase
- Just....not driving and using active / public transport?
- Fixing EV incentives, getting rid of loopholes and retiring ICE cars early

Australia really needs a truly independent climate accountability body. The Climate Change Authority is basically just a pro-government advertising body at the moment, just as much as the dep't of environment is.

The shift to EVs is happening—fast. Manufacturers can either embrace the long-term transition or chase short-term gains by clinging to petrol and diesel.

China is choosing the long view. Many in Europe aren’t. The risk? Ending up with cars no one wants, lost market share, and shuttered factories.
