I think it's really counterproductive here to refer to battery electric buses just as "electric buses".

Electric trolleybuses (buses with overhead wires) have a century+ track record of reliability and utility from Shanghai to São Paulo (unlike BEBs, a relative newcomer tech)

Very pleased to share that there is now a version of OpenRailwayMap that shows rail operators, e.g.: openrailwaymap.app#view=12.08/4...

The old Bill Holm replica totem poles seem more hidden away than ever before. I wonder how many UW students walk by regularly without ever noticing them.

Saw the new Coast Salish story pole on UW campus today. Looks neat! www.washington.edu/news/2025/09...

This explains the very arbitrary-sounding qualification that petitions are only restricted for (future) H-1(b) workers "currently outside the United States". The admin probably thinks they can't legally touch CoS, transfer, & renewal for H-1(b) beneficiaries already lawfully admitted to the US.
September 23, 2025 at 5:57 PM
A day later, the White House ended up "clarifying" that--contrary to the actual text of the proclamation--this would not be applied to existing H-1(b) holders, only to "the petition".

The Secretary of Commerce (???) is muddying the waters majorly by saying that the fee will be required every year. The executive proclamation does not mention this at all. That said, the order only lasts 12 months, so maybe there'll be a new order demanding $100k for every year from now on.

Wow, apparently I managed to scoop Bloomberg by over an hour! You saw it here first; follow @connorboyle.io for the latest in weird immigration policy news, I guess!

Is Trump just rebranding the (existing) EB-5 visa as the "Trump Gold Card"? Is this "contribution" an investment, then (not a direct fee paid to the US treasury)?

But also, in the FAQ it says a gold card holder receives "lawful permanent resident status as an EB-1 or EB-2 visa holder"

?????????
September 19, 2025 at 8:25 PM
Wait, the cost of the "Trump Gold Card" has apparently gone down to $1 million (from $5 million)! I don't remember any news or announcements about this! And now there's a "Platinum Card" that allows spending 270 days in the US without being subject to US taxes.

It would seem in the last 10 minutes or so, the sub-header changed from "Enter your information below to be notified the moment access opens" to "Unlock life in America"

Sometime in the last week or so, trumpcard.gov went from saying "The Trump Card is Coming" to "The Trump Card is Here".

That sounds a lot faster than I would have guessed. Cascades to B-ham is only 2h04m (scheduled)

I don't think that's necessarily unusual for a televote winner, but shows the televote is a very poor poll for what the "silent majority" of Europeans think of Israel or its entry.
May 22, 2025 at 12:22 AM
RAI released the televote shares for Italy. Assuming that Italy had a typical vote share for the year (other than for San Marino, where it was essentially voting for itself), I imagine Israel may have won the televote with <20% of the total vote share.

Paul Gosar cited this 2015 article in his proposal to eliminate OPT. WTF! It claims that America is being overrun by hordes of OPT workers but also that hardly any int'l students had heard of OPT. Um... I remember being an int'l student program volunteer in 2016-17. They definitely knew about OPT!!!

WTF is this article from Forbes??

These are NOT the questions you should be asking!!! You should be asking why on earth the Secretary of Commerce (!!!) claims to have granted lawful permanent residence to 1,000 people! That's not how this works!

Another framing that no trad. media source seems to mention:

EB-5's have a cap of ~10,000 per year. Trump is apparently planning to raise that number dramatically for the "Golden Card". Exactly how many Golden Cards will be available per year? AFAICT, no one knows and no one has bothered to ask.
February 26, 2025 at 11:26 PM
OTOH, mainstream media all seem to bury the lede, which is that Trump is apparently changing the ~$1,000,00 *investment* requirement to a *fee*. A lot of people who would've been happy to invest $1,000,000 in a business for an EB-5 green card would probably not pay $5,000,000 outright for a GC!
