I'm hoping at least one or other of PacWest and Big Pink gets an observation deck added. Both seem to have nice big areas of flat roof and would have fabulous views. It would be the perfect attraction to take out-of-town visitors to, and therefore be great for downtown foot traffic.

Public agencies should stop wasting money and people’s time on public engagement if it’s purely performance
BikePortland obtained via a public records request, letters from two law firms that intensely oppose the bus lanes. The firms represent Washman (which has two car washes on 82nd), Fubonn, and a strip mall owner.

Everything seemed to be lined up for seven miles of bus lanes, but now the wheels have come off.

Do you wish you lived in a city where you could simply buy some street food, like a delicious hot dog, while boppin around the city? Then you're going to want to submit written testimony or sign up to speak in favor at the Arts & Economy Committee next Tuesday.

Portland has a reputation for urban planning. Today I was asked what I think we’ve gotten right, and what we’ve gotten wrong.

I had many answers for the former. For the latter I had one: the 1970s era “Step Down to the River” policy, which resulted in development like the World Trade Center. 1/8

A lot of supply coming online right at the time Portland’s population started shrinking kept rents flat.

Big question is whether we’re going to see population growth pick up again at a time when next to no supply will be coming online.
Continue to feel like almost nobody talks about how flat rents in Portland have been for so long

They've risen with inflation but that's about it

I could say they're currently at August 2023 levels but they're also at November 2016 levels

Pride is an event that brings people to Downtown Portland from all over the region and indeed from out of state; the City of Portland should be making it as easy as possible for businesses take advantage of that.
Scandals doesn’t have the full street for their pride block party as usual; apparently “permitting was too hard”.

Something is deeply broken at @pbotinfo.bsky.social these days.

My unpopular opinion is that City of Portland employees should have an extra commitment to the City of Portland and therefore this is good
Portland's new mayor is making one of his first moves in office (well before office, really) to be requiring city staff back in their offices after several years of hybrid work.

It was...not well received.
Portland city employees balk at Mayor-elect Wilson’s return-to-office proposal
A call from Portland’s next mayor to require city employees work from the office more frequently isn’t sitting well with many city staff.
