Basically suburban bubble-era-style McMansions are so hideous I‘d rather believe it‘s at least cheaper than that there are millions of people who genuinely think they look nice

Also helps if the houses are well built: making a house that fits on its lot and uses building space really efficiently is harder for the builder than just going “oh fuck we have some space left over there? guess it’s a mud room”
