There is an argument for that. The transporter converts matter to energy and then back into matter (while also copying energy, such as brain activity).
In what sense is the reassembled person the same?
My take: a difference that is no difference doesn't matter. If you think you're the same, you are.

I may still be too young to get The Price of the Phoenix and The Fate of the Phoenix. I guess I should revisit those books, because it has been decades, but struggling through them back then left me in no hurry to do that to myself again.
