Ever wonder why HOTAS and HUDs are a thing?

So your eyes stay where the hell they're supposed to be to ensure your focus is on what you're supposed to be doing.

This is long overdue. Gimme some NCC-1701-ass controls.

No bloody A, B, C, or D.
Next year, the EU will require cars to have buttons & dials -- not just touchscreens -- to get a top safety rating.

This is a great move. Drivers can fiddle with knobs & buttons without taking their eyes off the road, but they can't do that with touchscreens.

(Even better: Tesla will hate this)
Cars will need fewer screens and more buttons to earn five-star safety rating in Europe
Euro NCAP will release new testing guidelines in 2026.

DHS has removed manual guidance barring investigations solely based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

This is a prerequisite to targeting the LGBTQ community with criminal investigations solely based on being LGBTQ.

People might want to pass this around if it's not widely known... "Animal shelters, rescues, and veterinarian clinics around the U.S. are ...telling pet owners to check their pets' microchips after learning a major microchip company is no longer providing services." www.cbsnews.com/pittsburgh/n...
Microchip company ceases operations, pet owners urged to re-register
The Texas-based company, Save This Life, has ceased operations and that could become an issue for pet owners.

Best part of this, because it is right. Trek is so much a work of fan imagination that we can barely tell the difference

The "more debt empowers you" is the same bullshit justification the guys who bought Knitting dot com gave for why they paid so much 😆
Episode 36: You Are A Badass

Do you want to take control of your life? It’s a two-step process: (1) defeat your evil subconscious and (2) go into massive amounts of debt.

I passed an "adopt a road" sign today where the adopting organization was called Ban Cars.
Such potential in this strategy! Repaint the whole road in multi use path markings? How many bollards and speed bumps do you think we could add in the name of road maintenance?

The 30 year Boeing machinist in my family retired pre-2020 before he rage quit or got fired. His stories sound very familiar to the ones here--and he was in the Puget Sound area. It wasn't/isn't just a SE plants problem. prospect.org/infrastructu...

This sounds like a mashup of a few games I've enjoyed
Star Trek: The Adventure Game (Board, West End, 1985)

A game with no direct fighting. The Federation and Klingons must recruit as many planets to their side, done via making choices in quests from a story book.

“…disabled people are actually less likely to drive than nondisabled people and more likely to get around by walking and rolling and taking transit. Car-heavy cities are also disproportionately dangerous for disabled folks…”

Do car-free zones hurt disabled people? We asked experts.
City planners and advocates are seeing "accessibility used as a political football."

Ok Seattle music nerds: in the 90s The End would play a Christmas song with the chorus "All I wanted was a skateboard but all I got was this stupid sweater." Searches in this century only bring up Weezer. Does anyone else remember this?

The amount of car-lite, bike-heavy people doing new battery runs for their car by bike is hilarious. 😂
This happened to me too!

Science is taught through a series of increasingly specific oversimplifications.
In 1890, the X and Y chromosomes were discovered. It was found that the men who were tested had 46 chromosomes, including an X and a Y, while women who were tested also had 46 chromosomes, including 2 X chromosomes.
So obviously the conclusion was that the Y chromosome defined masculinity.

Please consider writing a public comment on the proposed Interstate Replacement Bridge Project. Do you feel it's a good idea to spend billions to widen a highway with little left for people who walk, bike, and use transit?
