CN News/Schedules
@cnschedules.bsky.social
I report on Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Boomerang, HBO Max, MeTV Toons, etc. news and schedules. I don't work at CN.
I mean CN has not aired/streamed any of the shows they purged from HBO Max in August 2022 or got/renewed any streaming deals for them on other platforms or any of that... so I'd say they got written down. Not PURGED from existence like Final Space, but still.

The Elephant consists of three parts, each overseen by Rebecca Sugar/Ian JQ, Pendleton Ward, and Patrick McHale.

I'm sure CN would love to include OK KO in their little promo but the WBD writedowns make it impossible to air. No OTGW because just an hour of that would be weird.

I don't see AS going for other syndicated shows to fill up their lineups either, like Great North or Krapopolis or Cleveland or [insert anime] unless they cost peanuts. It's safer (if lazier and more depressing) to just spam Bob's Burgers and Family Guy and American Dad.
November 21, 2025 at 3:14 AM
Futurama is back too, but admittedly I haven't heard as much buzz for that. I think Adult Swim will still drop the show though, not for cost as much as for the fact it presumably bombed in ratings so hard that it has been mostly relegated to Saturday 4am for almost two years.
November 21, 2025 at 3:14 AM
Even if a potential renewal of rights did NOT include the Hulu seasons (Disney's keeping that shit to themselves obviously), it likely bumped the price to keep the thirteen Fox seasons to a point that AS was like, eh, pass.
November 21, 2025 at 3:14 AM
There is absolutely demand for KOTH now that it is back. The comeback season has been critically acclaimed. Hulu's already renewed it for two more seasons, four total. People remembered just how good the show is.
November 21, 2025 at 3:14 AM
Bob's Burgers seems to benefit AS too. They got to keep the show in 2023 and have seemingly renewed the deal this year to get seasons 1 - 15.

There's demand for those two, and Adult Swim supplied it.

Adult Swim also has American Dad thru 2030, a nice extra cushion.

So when the opportunity arose for Family Guy to be on networks other than FXX again, Adult Swim took it. Of course, so did Comedy Central.
And yet, with THREE networks airing the SAME show, often at the SAME time, it seems to have helped AS out in primetime.
November 21, 2025 at 3:14 AM
Meanwhile we all saw what happened when they lost Family Guy. Split screens. Speed-ups. KOTH and Futurama returning. KOTH plugging up any previously interesting timeslots. Futurama bombing. Significantly worse schedules.
November 21, 2025 at 3:14 AM
As stable as KOTH has been with filling schedule slots, I don't know if its ever been like, "cash cow" levels of necessary to the network. They let it go once already in 2018, to Comedy Central. AS never showed any signs of ratings struggles after losing it and Cleveland.
November 21, 2025 at 3:14 AM
Adult Swim's acquisitions budget is likely going to keep shrinking and shrinking. Cable TV is in a pretty bad spot. My guess is they opted to focus more on reacquiring Family Guy (cash cow #1) and retaining Bob's Burgers (cash cow #2) even if it meant letting KOTH go.
November 21, 2025 at 3:14 AM
Now there's a few theories we could make as to why Adult Swim is losing the show for a second time. My thought is it could be too expensive now.
November 21, 2025 at 3:14 AM
I remember stating back then that it made sense AS could get the rights back to KOTH when Disney was still otherwise wanting FXX to kick their asses. Disney made money from AS airing it, and they'd air it at timeslots FXX would never dare air KOTH (primetime / late afternoons).
November 21, 2025 at 3:14 AM
KOTH returning came as a huge surprise for us and a reprieve for Adult Swim. Family Guy had just left two months prior and Bob's Burgers was expected to leave in 2023. We expected Disney to just never answer Adult Swim's calls again.
November 21, 2025 at 3:14 AM
King of the Hill rejoined the Adult Swim lineup on November 22, 2021, and leaves on November 21, 2025.
Pretty obvious they chose not to renew what seemed to be a 4 year license to the series.
November 21, 2025 at 3:14 AM
Also should be noted that even if the sale process ends mid-December, it would take at least a year to clear regulation. M&As this big are never that quick. See AT&T and Time Warner, WarnerMedia and Discovery, Disney and 21st Century Fox, Paramount and Skydance...
