Grateful to have been back at my own elementary school, P.S. 230, to distribute halal chickens with ICNA Relief and the P.S. 230 PTA, and to join Heights and Hills for their Thanksgiving lunch for seniors! Community is what it’s all about.

Lastly, I proudly voted for CM Althea Stevens’ bill which will provide voter registration materials to high school seniors in our schools! Making voter registration more accessible to our young people is so important for civic engagement.

And I voted for CM @ericdinowitznyc.bsky.social’s Int 163A which passed today, to establish accessibility guidelines for printed documents created by NYC agencies. Standards for formatting, visual design, and readability, will ensure that essential information is readable for more New Yorkers.

I proudly voted for CM Farah Louis’s Int 691A, which will require the DOE to report on STEM offerings and enrollment in NYC high schools. This is an essential first step to weed out racial and gender disparities in STEM education in our schools.

I proudly voted for CM Mercedes Narcisse’s Int 1004A, which will require the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities to publish a list of wheelchair repair providers—an essential resource for New Yorkers who depend on their wheelchairs to get around.

I also co-sponsored CM Selvena Brooks-Powers’ Int. 1297A which passed today, closing a loophole in the Gender Motivated Violence Act. This bill ensures that survivors have the right to bring a suit against institutions (schools, hospitals, religious institutions) that enabled their abuse.

Thanks to The Collective and the incredible advocates who worked so hard for this. I was proud
to co-sponsor this bill alongside CM Linda Lee. Read our op-ed here →

If you are a victim of wage theft, you are not alone. There are resources, advocates, and elected officials prepared to fight for you. Our office is here to help connect workers with legal and community partners and will support them through every step of the process. (7/7)

That’s why I wrote the NYC Workers’ Bill of Rights. It’s a simple, multilingual guide that lays out key labor rights, across city, state, and federal law. Every employer in New York City must give this guide to their workers, post it as a notice, and share it during onboarding. (6/7)

And to invest in community-based organizations like the Workers Justice Project, who are often the first trusted point of contact for exploited workers, and doing extraordinary work. (5/7)

We need stronger enforcement, better worker protections, and more accessible reporting mechanisms, especially for immigrant workers who may fear retaliation or deportation. Employers who commit wage theft must face real consequences, including criminal liability when appropriate. (4/7)

We are encouraged by @NYSLabor’s thorough investigation and the $3 million penalty–which is not just restitution, but a signal to all employers that exploitation will not be tolerated. Our office is monitoring the case closely and ensuring the workers are paid fully. (3/7)

This case is emblematic of what thousands of workers across New York City experience every year. Wage theft is pervasive, and immigrant workers, particularly those who are newly arrived or face language barriers, are disproportionately targeted. (2/7)
