My dad abhors any negative comments about immigrants. Asked him recently why he’s so strong on it: ‘Because we’re always happy to take the rich and clever ones. Which means it’s not about disliking immigrants. It’s about disliking the poor and vulnerable. And that’s a bad human instinct.’
This is so disgusting.

This would have been an incredibly dark ending to Toy Story 3.
I buy stuffed animals at yard sales for my dog. They never hit the floor before being savagely eviscerated of their stuffing, then gnawed to shreds. The children selling their old toys often say "I hope your kid likes it as much as I did." I say "thanks" like a monster.

Seems the obvious point is people making investment decisions see the most benefit from those decisions. Feels like this pattern exists in politics too and the tragedy of our current democratic system is that it's too blunt to give even politicians who care insight into the reality of people's lives
The numbers in here are hilarious.

Do you use AI on the job?
Execs: 87%
Managers: 57%
Workers: 27%

Planned investment by 2030: $5T
"Necessary" annual revenue to justify that spend: $650B
Current annual revenue: $50B
Three years into the generative-AI wave, demand for the technology seems surprisingly flimsy

I think a lot of the conflict that happened in the Wild West could’ve been avoided had town planners in those days just made their towns big enough for everyone.

Marimar Martinez is a US citizen who was shot by ICE five times in Chicago.

She was then arrested, labelled a “domestic terrorist” and slandered on social media.

All charges against her have been dropped.

In this interview she shows on of the seven holes the ICE agent put in her body.

The blistering irony of this is that the internet was designed to be distributed so that it could lose network elements and still remain running.
Crowdstrike (Microsoft), AWS, Cloudflare failures:

"These incidents are not random. They reflect a deeper, structural issue: Internet consolidation has reached a point where the failure of a single provider can destabilize significant parts of the global Web."

A party that couldn't endorse Mamdani. . . has room for Marjorie Taylor Greene

The party can burn in hell

If there were people around the country committing violence against Catholic priests and attempting to burn them to death in their beds, would Simon Harris and the rest of our politicians, the very next day, take to the media to demand a debate on whether there were too many priests in Ireland?

In a world where all we seem to talk about is what the far right are doing, it's nice to be able to elevate a voice from the north inner city who's trying to do something positive in her community: www.thejournal.ie/readme/elect...

I am so upset.

Last week Time Magazine solicited a piece from me on Zohran Mamdani & anti-Muslim hate. I pitched a framing re the dehumanization of Muslims & how Mamdani’s inclusive, socialist campaign in its content resists that. They agreed. I wrote the piece. 1/
To be asked to write about racism only to be racially aggressed in the editing process is a new level unlocked I have to say.

I've been repeating this ad-nauseum at work - a university where they've whole-heartedly embraced GenAI. It's unconscionable as far as I'm concerned.
Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.
