Green Party Councillor on Kirklees Councillor. 1st elected in 1999. Dad, husband, Yorkshireman. 2024 Green Party Candidate for Huddersfield, now the most marginal Labour/Green Constituency in the UK.
Busy day, out and about delivering in Newsome and Crosland Moor.

Lovely response from local people as we have been going round for @greenparty.org.uk

With @greenparty.org.uk on our highest poll rating ever in the latest YouGov poll the projected result for Huddersfield is a Green Party Gain from Labour.

This is encouraging but a lot of work to do between now and the next General Election to make that result a reality.

Amongst the gloom of Reform gains yet another poll predicts a Green win in the Huddersfield Constituency at the next General Election.

I was one of the @greenparty.org.uk nominees to the House of Lords in the last Parliament

I will not be seeking reselection in the Party's current process.

Instead I will focus on helping ensure Huddersfield elects a Green MP at the next General Election.

Green Party members. Still time to vote for Ellie and Adrian in the Leadership Elections

Labour, Tory and Reform stands at Local Government Association Conference.

Always suspicious of parties that mix politics with patriotism.

Politics should be about ideals, ideas and implementing them.

No flags required!

@elliechowns.bsky.social & @adrianramsay.bsky.social
have shown they can win elections against the odds.

They reach new voters who have never voted for us before

In Parliament they show leadership on Gaza, climate change & welfare cuts

Our best option to lead @TheGreenParty

Great sponsored walk in aid of The Newsome Centre's Crowdfunder for our new vestry roof yesterday.

Nearly 8 miles around Castle Hill, Farnley Tyas, Brockholes, and back to Newsome.

Great views, good exercise.

Loved it.

Thanks to @kirkleescouncil.bsky.social
for fixing the benches on Byram Street, that I reported.

Here's after and before.

Keir Starmer is in Huddersfield today.

Cuts to welfare benefits & the winter fuel.allowance, higher costs for care providers is not what people expected when they voted Labour at the General Election.

Labour would rather cut the income of the most vulnerable than increase tax for the most wealthy

Well @kirkleescouncil.bsky.social budget passed around 1.30am

The Conservatives produced the blandest of amendments, then called for a vote without debate. Labour agreed and then they voted together to pass a budget.

Tories have no right now to complain about the Labour policies that they enabled.

It's @kirkleescouncil.bsky.social Budget Day.

No overall control council

Minority Labour Cabinet.

Could be a long night!

Out in Newsome this morning with Cllrs Karen Allison & Sue Lee-Richards getting signatures for the 'Change Kirklees' petition.

Lots of enthusiasm to dump the undemocratic Cabinet System where just 8 cllrs out of 69 make all the decisions to a Committee System where. All Cllrs have a vote.

Enjoyed hearing Moor End High School students do their policy pitches for their Democracy Day.

Some really good ideas and great to see confident young people expressing their values.

Good to be joined on the panel by Councillors Jo Lawson and Alex. Vickers.

So that's that then!

Pleased that @KirkleesCouncil Adult Health & Social Care Scrutiny Panel has asked the Labour Cabinet to put on hold the privatisation of 2 Council Dementia Care homes.

They should now scrap these proposals and provide peace of mind to residents and their families.

Cleared and gritted the path to The Newsome Centre yesterday with ward colleagues Cllrs Karen Allison and Sue Lee-Richards.

All sorted for our volunteers working in the building and for our first pilates class!

Newsome Ward Green Cllrs complete another New Year's Day Free Volunteer Bus Service.

Our 33rd year operating getting people to where they wanted or needed to go. Into Town, work, the pub, hospital, or home.

I'm pleased Kirklees Labour 🥀 have dropped their proposals for smaller grey bins.🗑

It wouldn't have helped recycling.♻️

We need more community recycling ♻️

Action on contaminated Green Bins. ♻️

More help & info for people to recycle ♻️

To be fair the bins they were proposing were far too small 😉

Good to see @thegreenparty.bsky.social Cllr Mothin Ali on Look North speaking up about the causes of the July riots in Harehills.

His actions to protect the community he represents were exemplary.
