well there is some LLMs that run on small footprints just like there is some ML that only runs on supercomputers. You cannot generalise here.
The question for both is what that footprint is used for. Cancer research? Go for it! Generating images or AI summaries in search engines? Less so

For all it is worth I think Bill Gates has humanity's best interest in mind - it is just sad he is removing himself from democratic control and any consequences... Because what he is doing is not the right thing even if he believes it is.

I dont get the whole discussion of "we need large scale CCS because cement cant be carbon neutral"... Sure we will always need some cement/concrete but we have come a long way with alternative materials like wood (which stores CO2) and reducing production is a lot easier of an option than CCS

And we will never get the Office365 suite officially for linux. Which sadly is still a better product than OSS alternatives.
